    Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy has gone for Wilfried Bony, who moved from Swansea to Manchester City.

    "He's a one-goal-in-two-games striker," says Murphy. "It gives City more firepower and eases the burden on Sergio Aguero. It might, just might, give them an extra boost as they go for the league title."

    Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan says that his own country, as well as England, Malta, Georgia, Belarus and the United States, have nominated him for the Fifa presidency.

    At a news conference in London on Tuesday, the 39-year-old said it was time for the "culture of intimidation" in world soccer's governing body to end.

    He also called for a public debate among the four candidates in the race including incumbent Sepp Blatter "to set out our positions and for people to know exactly where we stand."

    The greatest entertainer of them all? Gayle has dominated the Twenty20 game but has also scored more ODI runs than any other West Indies batsman except Brian Lara. One of only three batsmen - along with Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi - to hit more than 200 sixes and also has 158 wickets to his name.

    Rory McIlroy's court case against his former management agent has been adjourned until 14:00 GMT at the Irish High Court

    The world's number one golfer is suing Horizon Sports Management following a multi-million euros dispute over fees.

    The period under dispute coincided with McIlroy's sponsorship deal with Nike, said to be worth about $100m (£66m).

    The Daily Mirror, external says Arsenal teenager Chuba Akpom has agreed a new four-and-a-half-year deal to stay at the club.

    The 19-year-old striker, who had caught the eye of Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Tottenham, would have been out of contract in the summer.

  8. Merseyside Police withdraw kick-off appealpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2015

    Merseyside Police have withdrawn their legal appeal against the kick-off time of Saturday's derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park. It means the match will kick-off as planned at 17:30 GMT.

    The force's deputy chief constable, Andy Cooke, told the Liverpool Echo, external that the late start would cost an extra £50,000 to police but the police application was withdrawn during a court hearing on Tuesday morning after Everton agreed to increase segregation inside the ground.

  9. Wolverhampton prepares for Hayward funeralpublished at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2015

    Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Wolverhampton later as the city bids farewell to Sir Jack Hayward.

    The former Wolverhampton Wanderers owner, businessman and philanthropist died on 13 January, aged 91.

    A boyhood fan, he bought the club in 1990, spending some £70m of his own money before selling up in 2007.

    It's almost here... the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

    And, to mark the competition's opening on the weekend of 14 February, BBC Sport is conducting a vote on the world's greatest one-day international XI. Each day Sportsday live readers will get to vote for the different components which make up the side - opening batsmen, middle-order batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, pace bowlers and spin bowlers. The contenders have been nominated by the Test Match Special team.

    Voting on each category will take place on each weekday from today, with two votes on 9 February. The vote result won't be revealed until the Tuffers & Vaughan show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday, 9 February and on the BBC Sport website.

    England's Carl Froch has vacated the IBF Super Middleweight title - one of the two belts he holds in that division.

    It means James Degale, the mandatory challenger, will fight for the vacant belt on 25 April.

    Froch, who is currently out with an elbow injury, is now set to defend his WBA crown later this year.

    Just say cheese, Aaron? Ok then... Maybe Aaron Lennon has had some dental work done which stopped him from smiling for the camera, external after his move to Everton was confirmed. Unfortunately, toffees aren't so good for the pearly whites.

    If you missed the news, Everton have signed the winger on loan from Tottenham until the end of the Premier League season and the 27-year-old looks delighted to be on Merseyside.

    Portsmouth striker Paul McCallum has been banned for seven games following his dismissal against Southend on 24 January.

    McCallum, whose is on-loan from West Ham, was found guilty of improper conduct towards referee Lee Collins after being asked to leave the pitch.

    His three-match ban for the red card stands, and an extra four games have been added, meaning he will be unable to play again until 3 March.

    McCallum has apologised on Twitter for his reaction,, external admitting he had been "very stupid and reckless".

    Liverpool has been selected as the host city for the 2019 World Cup. It will be third time England has hosted the competition in its 56-year history.

    The Daily Mail , externalreports that Carlton Cole was "left furious" on Monday night after his transfer to West Brom broke down. The paper reports that West Ham had given Cole permission to move, but the Hammers called off the deal with an hour to go to deadline after Tottenham blocked a move for Emmanuel Adebayor.

    Manchester United failed to secure Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels in the January transfer window but the Old Trafford remain interested in signing him this summer.

    But former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has told BT Sport, external that he believes Louis van Gaal should not sign the 26-year-old, describing the player as 'too slow'.
