    Tiger Woods has paid tribute to Dr Charles "Charlie" Sifford after the golfing pioneer died aged 92.

    Woods has credited Sifford, the first African-American golfer to play on the PGA tour, for paving the way for his own career.

    The 14-times major champion tweeted , externalon Wednesday: "Terrible loss for golf and me personally. My grandfather is gone and we all lost a brave, decent and honorable man. I'll miss you Charlie."

    England have been training with a recording of the Welsh favourite Hymns and Arias ringing in their ears, with loud speakers in their indoor training centre playing the Max Boyce classic.

    "It's just a way of trying to replicate, for the players who have not been there, the sound of the Millennium Stadium," says head coach Stuart Lancaster.

    "And also how clear your communication has to be because often you can't hear yourself on the field. It just replicates that and gives them a chance to prepare."

    Former England captain Will Carling has said Danny Cipriani could provide England with the spark they have been missing.

    Cipriani has been named as a replacement by England for their Six Nations opener against Wales on Friday.

    "I'm pleased," Carling, speaking on BBC Radio 5 live, said of the Sale outside-half's inclusion in the 23-man squad. "He's an incredibly talented guy. His behaviour probably wasn't what it should have been, but he's knuckled down and deserves a chance.

    "He can offer a style of play which makes them more unpredictable and more dangerous. You can get to a certain level in a team without brilliance, but they need a certain spark at the moment and Cipriani can do that."

    The third-highest runscorer in ODI history, while his 113 scores of 50 or more is bettered only by Sachin Tendulkar. Seemingly improving with age, at 37, Sangakkara's 1,256 runs in 2014 were more than any other batsman in the calendar year. With 474 victims, Sangakkara is also the most successful ODI wicketkeeper of all time.

    Former Chelsea player Andre Schurrle says he has no regrets about leaving Stamford Bridge to join Wolfsburg in the January transfer window, although he admitted he had wanted to stay at the English club.

    "The last weeks or last month I tended towards changing something because I wanted to do what is fun for me and that is to play football. I could only do it briefly at Chelsea in the past weeks," he told a news conference in Germany.

    "I will never regret this [Chelsea]. I still love this club, the staff are amazing. I developed my game, I improved myself there. I was a different player when I came to Chelsea. It helped me a lot."

    Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has promised to pay any outstanding transfer fees "imminently" after the club were placed under a full embargo.

    Forest failed to meet the latest instalment to Peterborough United for £5m summer signing Britt Assombalonga.

    Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony called Forest's failure to pay a "disgrace".

    But Al Hasawi said on Twitter:, external "I can assure you any outstanding payments will be resolved imminently and our embargo situation will not change."

    The 'Master Blaster', perhaps the most devastating batsman of all, laying waste attacks with a maroon cap on his head and chewing gum in his mouth. A two-time World Cup winner, including a man-of-the-match performance in the 1979 final. However, it is for an unbeaten 189 against England that he is best remembered, an ODI record that stood for 13 years.

    Latest news on the QPR managerial role and although the club have made contact with former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood, there is no agreement or deal in place.

    Derby and former England manger Steve McClaren is also being linked with the role with an official announcement expected next week.

    BBC News reports that golfer Rory McIlroy's settlement with his former agent is understood to be well over $20m (£15m) plus costs.

    The world's number one golfer had been suing Horizon Sports Management in a multi-million pound wrangle.

    In a joint statement on Wednesday, the two parties said the legal dispute had been "settled to the satisfaction of both parties".

    With hunched shoulders and thick glasses, Lloyd was a world away from the modern cricketing athlete, but led West Indies' rise in the 1970s and was captain for the World Cup triumphs of 1975 and 1979. He was also a powerful destroyer of bowling in his own right, demonstrated by his 85-ball 102 in the inaugural final against Australia.

    AC Milan have unveiled tentative plans for a new 48,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof to open for the 2018-19 season.

    The club posted a video featuring a model of the two-tier arena to be built next to the club's recently opened headquarters in the Portell-Fiera area of the city which would cost 300-320m euros (£226m-£241m)

    Architect Emilio Faroldi says the stadium plan was inspired by Arsenal's Emirates Stadium in London, plus arenas in Basel and Neuchatel, Switzerland, and Bilbao, Spain. Final approval is expected in March.

    Mark Cavendish has won the opening stage of the Dubai Tour in a sprint finish for his second victory of the season.

    The Etixx-Quick Step rider beat Italians Andrea Guardini (Astana) and Elia Viviani (Team Sky) at the end of the 145km route from Dubai International Marine Club to Union House Flag.

    The Manxman opened his 2015 account at the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.

    The four-stage Dubai race concludes on Saturday.

Most famous for his individual records in Test cricket, Lara is one of only three non-Asian batsmen (along with Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis) to have registered more than 10,000 ODI runs.

    "Force India insist that there is no chance they could miss the start of the season despite serious delays in the preparation of their new car.

    The team missed this week's first pre-season test in Jerez and now say it is unlikely their 2015 car will be ready for the next session.

    But a spokesman said that the team would be in Barcelona from 19-22 February, probably in their 2014 car and added there was 'no truth' in claims they would miss Australia's first race."

    A 22-year-old Inzamam showed his talent in the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup, hitting 60 from 37 balls to defeat New Zealand and send Pakistan to a final against England that they would win. His large frame often made him a figure of fun, but a combination of touch and power put him the sixth on the all-time runscorers' list.
