    World Cricket League Division Six

    Guernsey have missed out on the chance to host the 2015 ICC World Cricket League Division Six tournament.

    Essex will host the event in early September after the island's bid, and one from Vanuatu, were rejected.

    "Ultimately it's come down to cost as it's funded by the ICC," Guernsey Cricket Board chief executive Mark Latter told BBC Sport.

    "They looked at the Under-19's event in Essex last year and they thought that was a better option this time."

    A former Wales youth international rugby player has been banned for 48 weeks for verbally abusing match officials.

    James Egan was sent-off while playing for St Joseph's against Clwb Rygbi Caerdydd in January 2015.

    Egan played for Wales Under-19s in 2007 and the Under-20s a year later.

    The duration of the ban means he will not be able to resume playing until 1 March 2016 once the close season has been taken into account.

    And while we're on the subject of the Nordic Ski World Championships, how about the couple who made sure of getting a good spot for their motorhome in an event campsite, by parking up early, external... five months early.

    Ski fans Paul-Arne and Hanna-Mari Anthonse drove from their home in north Norway to host city Falun in Sweden, parked their van and left, returning last Friday, with their dog, for the start of the two-week event.

    "We drove down in September to make sure we got a good spot right next to the Arena," says Paul-Arne. Luckily there was no London 2012 Olympic-style ticket debacle and the couple have tickets for every event, with a ringside home to boot.

    Formula 1's governing body has rejected proposals to change the rules before 2017 to make the sport more exciting for spectators.

    Wider tyres, increasing 850bhp engine power back to 1,000bhp and improved bodywork were among proposals debated at an FIA commission meeting in Geneva.

    According to Reuters, teams failed to agree on the type and timing of modifications.

    Ferrari and Red Bull are among those wanting change next year, but Mercedes warn against the impact on this season.

    Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair has had his say after footage emerged which appeared to show fans preventing a black man from boarding a Paris train that was carrying some Chelsea fans, among others.

    "It was very disappointing to see the media coverage this morning. I didn't know about it happening before the game. After hearing about it, it is disappointing that sort of feeling is still in football.

    "There are a lot of organisations trying to prevent racism in football. It is a minority and they are not representing Chelsea Football Club. The way football is now, the hooligans tend to move from club to club."

    Winger Tommy Makinson has signed a new four-year contract with Super League champions St Helens.

    The 23-year-old has 69 tries in 104 matches for the club, as well as kicking 79 goals, and scored in last season's Grand Final win over Wigan.

    Makinson said: "I've already had a great four seasons with the first team at my boyhood club.

    "It's a thrill to know that I'll now be part of it for the foreseeable future. It's a great time to be at St Helens."

    The inaugural British Rowing Indoor Championships took place recently at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London, with thousands of competitors and spectators enjoying the action .

    It was a mixture of serious competition and fun, with races for all ages ranging from Year 7 schoolchildren to the over 65's. The oldest competitor is 86 and loving it!

    Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu has criticised the head of world athletics for saying the sport faces a "crisis" over doping allegations.

    International Association of Athletics Federations president Lamine Diack told the BBC that he was "shocked" by claims that IAAF officials were implicated in covering up doping in Russia.

    "It's very hard to promote our sport when he doesn't know what the hell is going on," Ohuruogu told BBC Radio 5live. "Who else's job is it?"

    Iran field a team of four at the Nordic World Ski Championships, external, which begin today, but are not entirely happy with the conditions.

    "Sweden is extremely cold and the place of the competition has been filled with artificial snow," said competitor Sattar Seyd. "We used to train on natural snow and it's difficult to compete," he told the Team Iran website, external.

    Alongside Seyd in the men's event is Yasin Shemshaki, and for the ladies, Samaneh Beirami and Farzaneh Rezasoltani take to the snow.The team has doubled in size since the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

    Flanker Peter O'Mahony is the latest Ireland star to reject a move to France after signing a new three-year contract with Munster.

    The 25-year-old club captain has committed to Thomond Park until June 2018, in a clear boost to the Irish province and Ireland boss Joe Schmidt.

    Toulouse and a host of French Top 14 clubs were understood to have monitored O'Mahony's situation, but the back-rower has opted instead to stick to his roots.

    More on the news that Darren Clarke will be Europe's Ryder Cup captain for the 2016 tournament at Hazeltine, USA.

    The 46-year-old Northern Irishman - who played in five Ryder Cups and was a vice-captain in 2010 and 2012 - has described it as "a huge honour".

    "I am naturally extremely proud to be selected as European Ryder Cup captain for 2016," he said.

    "The Ryder Cup has been a massive part of my life and my career, so to have the chance to lead Europe next year is a huge honour.

    "I am lucky to have played and worked under some fantastic captains in my seven Ryder Cups to date and I look forward to the challenge of trying to follow in their footsteps and help Europe to a fourth consecutive Ryder Cup victory at Hazeltine next year."

    Clarke got the nod ahead of Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn.

    Another statement, this time from Arsenal who have released one in relation to the announcement that their FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United will be played at 19:45 GMT on Monday 9 March.

    They said: "The club is exploring a number of options to help our travelling supporters get back to London afterwards.

    "No return trains are currently timetabled and we will let supporters know the proposed travel plans as soon as possible."

    Kane Williamson is to return to Yorkshire this summer, but only for a short spell.

    The New Zealand batsman, who helped Yorkshire to the Division One County Championship title last year, is likely to arrive only for the final three championship matches, following New Zealand's scheduled one-day international tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa.

    Williamson has helped New Zealand to two victories from two games so far at the Cricket World Cup.
