    Former British welterweight champion Lee Purdy has retired after losing vision in his left eye.

    The 27-year-old injured his eye in a defeat by Leonard Bundu in December 2013, and after a series of operations has decided to quit boxing.

    Purdy, who says it could take up to 18 months before he discovers how his long-term vision has been affected, suffered a defeat in his most high-profile fight where he was a replacement for Kell Brook against Devon Alexander almost two years ago.

    Italian international flanker Simone Favaro will join Glasgow Warriors on a two-year contract in the summer.

    The 26-year-old, who currently plays for Warriors' Pro12 rivals Treviso, has played 23 times for his country and has made 35 appearances for his current club.

    The statements keep rolling in after footage emerged which appeared to show Chelsea fans preventing a black man from boarding a Paris train.

    The FA say: "We fully support Chelsea's position in seeking to ban any of the club's season-ticket holders or members who face criminal action in relation to these abhorrent scenes.

    "The FA, like the club, completely condemn such disgraceful behaviour which is a criminal offence and those responsible should face the strongest possible punishment."

    England captain Eoin Morgan says he cannot explain his recent poor run of form with the bat.

    The Dubliner was dismissed without scoring in England's 111-run World Cup defeat to Australia on Saturday, his fourth duck in his last five innings.

    The 28-year-old insists he has not made any alterations to his technique.

    "I don't understand it," he said. "I've done the same things I've been doing since the start of the tour and I started the tour with a hundred. That's only five games ago."

    Scotland Yard have issued a statement after footage emerged which appeared to show Chelsea fans preventing a black man from boarding a Paris train.

    "We are aware of footage currently on the internet allegedly involving Chelsea fans in Paris. The Metropolitan Police Service takes offences such as this very seriously, no matter where they occur.

    "We will examine the footage with a view to seeing if we can apply for football banning orders, preventing people from travelling from future matches. We will, of course, assist French authorities to identify the people involved and support them in any action they choose to take.

    "At the same time we will be working closely with Chelsea football club."

    The Welsh Open continues today, with defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in action from 12:00 GMT against home favourite Matthew Stevens in the third round. Mark Allen, Ali Carter and Joe Perry all play too.

    The new venue for the tournament is like a "shopping mall", said O'Sullivan, who won twice on the opening day.

    David Beckham has backed former team-mate Luis Figo's bid to become the next FIFA president.

    The 42-year-old former Portugal international and world footballer of the year announced last month that he would stand against current president of Sepp Blatter.

    Former England captain Beckham described his one-time Real Madrid colleague as being "passionate" and said: "Any successful organisation needs to have good people who are passionate about the game and want to do the best for fans."

    Salford Red Devils forward Gareth Hock has been banned for six games for recklessly using his knees twice during their Super League defeat by St Helens.

    The former Wigan and England second row was banned for three matches per offence committed during the Red Devils' 52-6 defeat last Thursday.

    Hock was penalised for a tackle on Tommy Makinson in the 53rd minute.

    He was then sin-binned for a repeat offence on Mose Masoe in the 61st minute.

    Ed Clancy is weighing up whether to focus solely on trying to win a third successive Olympic team pursuit gold alongside Sir Bradley Wiggins in Rio.

    Clancy was part of the pursuit quartet in 2008 and 2012, but doubled up in London where he also won bronze in the omnium.

    The 29-year-old said: "My main thing's team pursuit, always has been and always will be. But I don't know how much longer I'll be doing the track for and maybe this is the last big push.

    "More than anything I just want to get up there with Wiggins and the rest of the team and smash out another gold medal. That's the big dream, that's what really drives me, and I don't want to detract from it with omnium stuff."
