    Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside and former manager Sammy Lee appear in court on charges stemming from a 2007 transfer deal dispute.

    They are accused of perjury in a private prosecution brought by football agent Tony McGill, who says he was cut out of a £1m deal in which Gavin McCann moved from Aston Villa.

    Mr McCann and seven others from the football world have also been charged.

    No pleas were entered in the hearing at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.

    Because there is a chance that Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe, best known for his role in Gladiator, could do battle with them in Football League meetings.

    Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he will be treating the second leg of their last-32 Europa League tie against Fiorentina as seriously as Sunday's League Cup final against Chelsea.

    The Greek government has suspended professional football in the country indefinitely in a crackdown on violence.

    The move follows violence at a match between rivals Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, as well as a brawl between club officials at a board meeting on Tuesday.

    The Greek league has already been suspended twice this season because of violence.
