    England full-back Mike Brown is ruled out of the Six Nations match against Ireland after failing to recover from concussion.

    Brown, 29, was taken off on a stretcher in the first half of England's 47-17 win over Italy at Twickenham on 14 February.

    Bastareaud is replaced by Remi Lamerat as Les Bleus coach Philippe Saint-Andre makes five changes following the 18-11 defeat by Ireland.

    Premiership side Harlequins sign back-row forward Netani Talei on a deal until the end of the season.

    The 31-year-old Fiji international has been with Quins on a short-term deal and has featured in their last three games.

    Talei was a free agent after leaving Newport Gwent Dragons in October following a foot injury.

    Davis Love III has been named United States captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine in Minnesota.

    Love, 50, led the United States team beaten by a stunning Europe comeback in the 'Miracle of Medinah' of 2012.

    "I am here with the same goal as in 2012 but not as the same captain," said Love.

    Europe, who defeated the US 16½-11½ at Gleneagles to retain the cup last autumn, named Darren Clarke as skipper for 2016 last week.

    Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes is seen regularly as a television pundit these days - but could he soon be spotted in the dugout?

    The 40-year-old's affinity with hometown club Oldham has been well documented and now the League One club are thought to be interested in appointing him as their new manager, according to the Daily Mail.

    The Latics are set to lose current boss Lee Johnson to divisional rivals Barnsley.

    McLaren driver Fernando Alonso remains in hospital in Barcelona following Sunday's accident in pre-season testing that left him with concussion.

    McLaren initially said the incident was a "normal accident" but the length of the two-time world champion's stay has raised questions about his condition.

    The Spaniard, 33, has spent three nights in hospital and there has been no information on his likely release.

    McLaren have not said whether he could drive in this week's final test.

    Norwich City boss Alex Neil says he and his players are proving their desire to win games.

    The Canaries came from behind to win 2-1 at Blackburn on Tuesday and register a fifth successive victory.

    "It means the world to me. I'm here to win games and do the best I can for Norwich and my group of players," Neil told BBC Radio Norfolk.

    "I know it means a lot to the fans, but I can assure you, it means everything to this group of players."

    Katie Beveridge: Scotland vs Estonia (October 1996) match abandoned after three seconds because of Estonia not turning up.

    In one of the most farcical moments in world football, Scotland kicked off without any opponents after Estonia were unhappy that the game had been moved forward by more than three-and-a-half hours because the floodlights were judged to not be good enough for an evening game.

    Scotland kicked off and celebrated as they thought they would be given an automatic 3-0 win. They were not celebrating though when Fifa ordered the game to be replayed in Monaco - and, with Estonia present this time, it ended 0-0.

    Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion have been fined £90,000 by the Football Association after admitting to a breach of the FA's agent regulations over their purchase of midfielder Dale Stephens from Charlton in January last year.

    The Seagulls have also been warned about their future conduct.

    Three football agents - Alex Levack, Matthew Kleinman and Ali Rahnama - have been sanctioned and warned after also admitting a breach of rules.

    As BBC Sport Wales revealed about an hour ago, Cardiff Blues announce director of rugby Mark Hammett is leaving his post after just six months.

    The ex-New Zealand hooker, 42, was appointed at the start of the season on a three-year deal.

    Blues say Hammett had asked to leave his role and "return home with his family at the earliest opportunity, citing personal reasons".

    Great news for Irish cricket fans. Ireland have managed to scrape a two-wicket win over United Arab Emirates in the Cricket World Cup with two balls to spare.

    UAE had posted a score of 278-9 off their 50 overs and Ireland, who beat West Indies earlier in the competition, fell to 97-4 in their reply.

    But 80 from Gary Wilson and 50 from Kevin O'Brien helped them to 279-8 and their second win of the tournament.

    This is the reaction Liston got when he called his opponent Cassius Clay. Muhammad Ali had changed his name after their first fight and before the second. Liston was knocked out in the first round of their second meeting in 1965.

    The British number one breezes past Portugal's Joao Sousa in just 57 minutes - winning 6-0 6-2 - in the Dubai Championships.

    Next up is either Croatia's Borna Coric or Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who play later today, in the quarter-final.

    Nottingham Panthers coach Corey Neilson says the reigning Challenge Cup champions' semi-final defeat against Sheffield Steelers feels like a "dagger in the heart".

    Panthers led 3-1 after the first leg, external in the home of their fierce rivals but Steelers won the second leg 6-4 at the National Ice Centre and then triumph 1-0 on penalty shots.

    "We weren't good enough. I wasn't good enough. It's a dagger in the heart," Neilson told BBC Radio Nottingham.

    "We didn't execute all that well I don't think we dealt with the emotion of the game and the highs and lows that well."
