    Bradford's muddy Valley Parade pitch is hardly going to win any prizes for the 'best playing surface in English football' - but Reading boss Steve Clarke is unconcerned.

    Sunderland boss Gus Poyet labelled the pitch as "one of the worst in the country", external after his side's defeat in the last 16.

    However, Clarke says it is "not a concern" and is anticipating a "really good game" on Saturday.

    Reading boss Steve Clarke is clearly in relaxed mood as he faces the media before this weekend's FA Cup quarter-final against Bradford City.

    "Where were you all last week?!" the smiling Scot cheekily asks the packed press room.

    Then it is down to business. Clarke goes on to praise the League One side, hailing their run - in which they have dumped out Premier League leaders Chelsea and Sunderland - as "fantastic".

    "But we're aiming to spoil their party this weekend," he warns.

    Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is charged by the Football Association after being sent-off during his side's 1-1 draw at Premier League rivals Hull City.

    The Uruguayan angrily kicked over a water bottle before having a touchline scuffle with Hull City counterpart Steve Bruce.

    Bruce has also been "formally reminded of his responsibilities" by the FA., external

    It is alleged Poyet's behaviour amounted to improper conduct and he has until 18:00 GMT on 9 March to respond to the charge.

    Guess what's making the news in Spain this morning? That's right, more cup action.

    Last night saw the conclusion of the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, and it was Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao who advanced to the showpiece after sealing victories over Villarreal and Espanyol respectively.

    Sports paper Mundo Deportivo is calling it 'The Final of Kings', with both sides having won the trophy 49 times between them.

    There was also cup action in Italy last night, with Lazio and Napoli contesting the first leg of their semi-final.

    The match finished 1-1, but sports paper Corriere dello Sport reckons Napoli have the upper hand after securing a crucial away goal.

    Miroslav Klose opened the scoring for Lazio in the first half, but Manolo Gabbiadini replied with his fourth goal since joining in the January transfer window.

    Let's have a quick look at what's making the sporting headlines on the continent this morning.

    In France, L'Equipe leads on last night's French cup win for Paris Saint Germain over Monaco. Edinson Cavani and former Chelsea player David Luiz were on target in the 2-0 victory. The headline reads: 'The giants awaken.'

    With the French rugby union team going through a bad patch, the paper also poses the question: 'Are the foreign players in the Top 14 stronger than Les Bleus?'

    To mark World Book Day, Super League side Leeds Rhinos have been asking their players and staff to name their favourite childhood reads.

    And who would have guessed that Roald Dahl was the clear favourite in the Rhinos ' dressing room? Not us.

    Former England captain Jamie Peacock plumped for 'George's Marvellous Medicine', long-serving Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield chose 'The BFG', while coach Brian McDermott completed the hat-trick with 'Danny The Champion of the World'.

    Rugby league fans might suggest big, friendly giant Peacock picking 'The BFG' might have been more apt. Well, for his off-field persona at least....

    Leicestershire have signed New Zealand World Cup all-rounder Grant Elliott as their second overseas player for this summer's T20 Blast.

    The 35-year-old has agreed an initial 10-match contract with the Grace Road club, and joins Australian pace bowler Clint Mackay in the squad.

    "I'm really excited to be a Fox this season and make some valuable contributions with both bat and ball," he said. "Leicestershire will have a new look for 2015 and I'm ready to play my part."

    Like a pair of naughty schoolboys stood outside the headteacher's office, Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans are waiting to find out their fate.

    The Football Association will wait to receive the report of referee Anthony Taylor before deciding what action to take against the pair after they appeared to spit at each other during United's 1-0 win over the Magpies.

    Evans had taken exception to Cisse's challenge close to the halfway line.

    As is the way with the modern world, social media is where we tend to hear from footballers - and West Ham defender Winston Reid is no exception.

    The Kiwi was thought to be leaving the Hammers in the summer but has now committed to a new SIX-and-a-half year deal.

    "Thank you for all the kind messages. I'm very happy to be able to be staying here. The upcoming seasons will be so exciting with everything going on in and around the club, it's a special time for everyone so look forward to being a part of it and staying here #COYI," he tweets.

    The Daily Telegraph leads on that frightening incident involving Bafetimbi Gomis, calling it 'The moment football held its breath'.

    The paper's Oliver Brown writes:, external "Worry was etched across the faces of team-mates and opponents alike as he received extended treatment in the centre circle."

    The paper also quotes Swansea manager Garry Monk, who said: "Obviously with the history at this ground over Fabrice Muamba, there was a little bit of panic perhaps. But I think it looked worse than it actually was."

    The prize for the most unsavoury back page image of the day goes to the Daily Star, which leads on the spitting incident involving Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse.

    The paper quotes TV pundit Steve McManaman, who called the incident "absolutely disgusting", adding: "We talk about bad tackles, but that is worse."

    The Star's back page also carries an arresting image of Bafetimbi Gomis as he was taken from the field following his collapse last night.

    Now, I know what you're thinking. What about today's back pages? Well, here they are.

    We begin with the Independent, which leads with a couple of those big results in yesterday's Premier League programme. The paper's Sam Wallace writes:, external "While Jose Mourinho's Chelsea team are still a long way from securing the club's fifth league championship it is victories like these that make you wonder whether there is anyone who can stop them."

    There is also a picture of Rory McIlroy, who is looking to bounce back after missing the cut at the Honda Classic last week when he tees off at the WGC-Cadillac Championship later today.

    Scotland's hopes of making it to the next round of the Cricket World Cup are officially over after they suffered a six-wicket defeat by Bangladesh.

    The match had begun promisingly for the Scots, with Kyle Coetzer hitting 156, the highest-ever score by an Associate nation batsman at the tournament, in an imposing total of 318-8.

    But it was the bowling that let Scotland down as Bangladesh cantered to the target with 11 balls remaining.

    That result, not incidentally, means England must beat Bangladesh when the two sides meet on Monday if they are to keep alive their own hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.

    Now then, a couple more news lines to bring you up to date with this morning.

    The first of them concerns West Ham defender Winston Reid. You may remember that New Zealand centre-back Reid seemed destined for the exit door, with Arsenal and Manchester United mooted as possible destinations.

    Well you can forget that. Reid is staying put - he's just signed a new six-and-a-half-year deal at Upton Park.

    "It's one of those things that took a bit of time, but we got there in the end," said Reid.

    Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis is apparently 'fine' after fainting during his side's 3-2 league defeat at Tottenham.

    Gomis, who has a history of collapsing, was conscious when he was stretchered off after six minutes.

    Tottenham won the match with goals from Nacer Chadli, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend.

    Gomis said after the game: "I wanted to reassure you concerning my health. It actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous. I am feeling well now."

    Manchester United claimed a late win against Newcastle in a match that had most people talking about one thing: an apparent spitting incident between Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse.

    BBC Sport pundits have been weighing in on the altercation and say both players should face a ban.

    Ashley Young pounced on Tim Krul's error to grab the points for United, while there was also a return to first team action for Jonas Gutierrez (pictured), who recently returned from a battle with testicular cancer.

    Manchester City maintained their pursuit of the leaders with a 2-0 victory against struggling Leicester.

    David Silva put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time before James Milner sealed victory late on.

    Manuel Pellegrini raised a few eyebrows with his selection as he dropped captain Vincent Kompany to the bench, but his side's win keeps Leicester rock bottom, seven points from safety.
