Glamorgan and Leicestershire play out draw
Cricket
BBC Wales' Nick Webb at Grace Road: "Former Glamorgan batsman Mark Cosgrove helped his new side Leicestershire to bat out a draw after they had been set a target of 306 in a minimum of 50 overs to beat the Welsh county.
"The home side slumped to 1-2, but Cosgrove's stubborn knock of 59 not out helped Leicestershire finish on 141-3.
"Earlier Chris Cooke's fluent innings of 81 had allowed Glamorgan the luxury of declaring on 227-7 early in the afternoon session after Mark Wallace became the club's first specialist wicketkeeper to pass 10,000 runs in first class cricket."
The 27-year-old, who started his career at Wigan, has made six appearances for the Vikings this season.
Wakefield coach James Webster told the club website: "Ben will add some size and speed to an area we have been short in over the past six weeks."
The Wildcats are bottom of Super League with just two wins and entertain Halifax in the Challenge Cup on Friday.

Thirty-two tons of dead fish have been cleared out of the lagoon where Olympic rowing and canoeing events will take place next year, officials in Rio de Janeiro said on Wednesday.
More than 60 people from the city's sanitation department have been working daily since week to remove the fish from the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, with many thousands washed up on the shore, and will keep doing so until the problem is resolved.
Specialists dispute what caused the fish to perish, with some claiming it is down to a sudden drop in water temperature and others saying pollution is to blame.

Former champion Ken Doherty fails to reach the World Championships main draw after losing to Mark Davis in the third and final qualifying round.
The Irishman, 45, who won the title in 1997, trailed 8-1 after the first session before losing 10-3.
"I tried to make a fight of it but it just didn't happen. I was too far back," said Doherty.
But Scotland's Graeme Dott is through to Saturday's main draw at the Crucible after beating China's Yu Delu 10-7.
"I don't care who I play," said Dott. "Ronnie O'Sullivan in the first game, why not? I've played three games and he's not played any.
"I don't think anyone is going to want to draw me. I'm not saying they will be intimidated but there will certainly be easier games than me."

St Helens prop forward Alex Walmsley has agreed a new three-and-a-half year contract at the club after getting offers from the NRL.
Walmsley signed for the club in 2013 and has gone on to make 62 appearances, including in last season's Grand Final win over Wigan.
"I had offers from the NRL which I naturally had to think about," said Walmsley. "There is obviously a pull there as it is a prestigious league but credit to Keiron [Cunningham] - he made it clear he wanted to keep me and in the end that was the deciding factor.
"When the club made it very clear how much they wanted to keep me on board then it made the decision easier."
Draw on cards in Northampton
Cricket
BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Wantage Road: "Only one wicket fell in an afternoon session that never really fell short of turgid.
"Chris Dent only added 20 runs in two hours for Gloucestershire, who, despite batting fluently in the morning, became happy to accept the inevitable draw with Northants, as they reached the tea interval on 235-2, still trailing the hosts by 218.
"It was the spin of Rob Keogh that brought the only success as he trapped Gareth Roderick in front for 52, the wicketkeeper's second half century of the match, adding to his record-equalling six victims in Northants' first innings."
Leicestershire v Glamorgan heads for draw
Cricket
BBC Wales' Nick Webb at Grace Road: "Leicestershire reached tea on 34-2 after being set a demanding target of 306 in a minimum of 50 overs by Glamorgan.
"The Welsh county upped the run-rate after lunch with Chris Cooke reaching 81 and Craig Meschede belting a rapid 33 before Jacques Rudolph declared on 227-7.
"The Foxes made a nervous start as Dan Redfern and Ned Eckersley were back in the pavilion with only a single on the board, but Angus Robson and Mark Cosgrove survived to the interval to get the home side within sight of a draw after a match of fluctuating fortunes."
Middlesex battling to save the draw
Cricket
BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand: "Middlesex continue to battle to save the draw at tea on the final day - they are 235-5 but the momentum is very much with Nottinghamshire.
"Three wickets fell in the session, including the foundation of the innings Nick Compton (85), but captain Adam Voges remains unbeaten on 66 and, with Dawid Malan unable to bat, much now rests on him.
"The pitch continues to play well but the new ball is only eight overs old and remains a threat for the visitors."

Relatives of the victim Odin Lloyd, who had played American football semi-professionally, wept in the Massachusetts courthouse as the verdict was announced on live television.
Hernandez once had a $40m (£27m) contract with the New England Patriots.
The 25-year-old was also found guilty on firearm and ammunition charges.
In his closing arguments, Hernandez's lawyer acknowledged that the 23-year-old was there when Odin Lloyd was killed, but said it was two of Hernandez's friends who committed the murder.
Prosecutors said Hernandez planned the killing and then helped cover it up.

"England are still in a strong position after day two of the first Test against the West Indies. After reaching 399 in their first innings, they reduced the hosts to 155-4 in reply.
"With the new ball due before lunch on day three, it's perfectly possible they could bowl West Indies out quite cheaply and have a healthy first-innings lead to build on. So I'd much rather be in the England dressing-room at the moment.
"However, that only tells half the story of a rather frustrating day for England that saw them squander some of the advantage gained on a dominant first day through tentative cricket."

Glos openers start well against Northants
Cricket
BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Wantage Road: "It was almost the perfect morning for Gloucestershire as they set off in an unlikely pursuit of the 419 needed in the day to produce an historic victory, but the dismissal of Will Tavare for 66 close to lunch has dented their chances.
"Tavare and Chris Dent (65 not out) put on 137 for the first wicket before the former was bowled by Azharullah.
"Northants had bowled loosely up until then; but, as often happens, a change of ball meant a change of fortune and they will be hoping for further inroads early in the afternoon, with Gloucestershire still needing 310 from 56 overs."

"Nick Gubbins was the man to go caught at short leg off Samit Patel but his partnership of 132 for the second wicket with Nick Compton (63*) has kept Notts at bay and laid the foundation for the middle order to bat the day out.

Wallace reaches Glamorgan landmark
Cricket
BBC Radio Wales' Nick Webb at Grace Road:
"Glamorgan reached 155-5 at lunch on the final day, a lead of 233 runs over Leicestershire, with a draw looking the most likely result in their Championship opener.
"Mark Wallace reached his landmark of 10,000 first-class runs, the first Glamorgan specialist wicketkeeper to do so, but his dismissal for eight left Leicestershire in with a chance of forcing a run-chase.
"Chris Cooke rescued them as he reached 69 not out, dominating a half-century partnership with Graham Wagg, and Leicestershire's hopes of breaking their two-year barren stretch without a four-day win were not helped by losing paceman Atif Sheikh with shoulder trouble after bowling only seven deliveries."
The home side, promoted from Division Two last summer, were bowled out for 285 just before lunch, having been set a victory target of 378.
Pace bowler Ajmal Shahzad was the most successful bowler for the three-times champions, taking 3-63.

Vaughan wants clarity on ECB role
Cricket
Former England captain Michael Vaughan says the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) newly created director of cricket role "needs defining" before he can fully declare his interest in the position.

Vaughan and fellow ex-captains Andrew Strauss and Alec Stewart are the leading candidates for the new role, created as part of a restructure following the departure of managing director Paul Downton.
Vaughan says there is no need for the ECB to "panic" and rush into a selection, stressing instead the importance of choosing the right long-term strategy for English cricket.

Doherty misses out, Dott bullish
Snooker

Three players were diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease this week, while clubs have been supplying insect repellent during training.
Cases of dengue fever have increased significantly across Brazil this year, with most of them reported in Sao Paulo state.
Corinthians midfielder Renato Augusto said some of the club's players have been training with pants and long sleeves to try to avoid the mosquitoes.
Brazil's health ministry said there have been more than 460,000 cases of the disease in the country in 2015, while more than 130 people have died this year already.
Walmsley to stay with Saints
Rugby League

A statement from the governing body read: "The IAAF has received and reviewed an application for IAAF membership from the Kosovo Athletic Federation. The application was judged to meet the requirements, as set out in article 4.3 of the constitution, and provisional IAAF membership was granted."

Balthazar King making progress
Horse Racing
Cornelius Lysaght
BBC horse racing correspondent
Trainer Philip Hobbs says Balthazar King, the Grand National runner who took a heavy fall at the Canal Turn during Saturday's Aintree feature, is making "slow but steady progress" as he recovers from his injuries.
The field had to bypass the fence on the second circuit as the 11-year-old, who suffered broken ribs, was being treated.
Nadal goes through in Monte Carlo
Tennis
World number five Rafael Nadal has started his build-up to the French Open in style after he eased into the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Cricket
Cricket
BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand: "Middlesex's only wicket to fall this morning came in the final over before lunch as the hosts gave themselves a great chance of saving the game against Nottinghamshire.
"Nick Gubbins was the man to go caught at short leg off Samit Patel but his partnership of 132 for the second wicket with Nick Compton (63*) has kept Notts at bay and laid the foundation for the middle order to bat the day out.
"A second new ball will be available in the afternoon but the pitch has played well today and showed little sign of the indifferent bounce glimpsed on the previous three days."
Sussex wrap up victory over Hants
Cricket
Sussex have begun their County Championship campaign with a 92-run win over Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
The home side, promoted from Division Two last summer, were bowled out for 285 just before lunch, having been set a victory target of 378.
Pace bowler Ajmal Shahzad was the most successful bowler for the three-times champions, taking 3-63.

Today head of Mercedes motorsport Toto Wolff has had this to say: "We saw tensions between Nico and Lewis in the race and we tackled them directly on Sunday night to stop anything carrying over to this weekend.
"When you have intense competition, it's normal that it causes emotions to run high - and that's not something we want to change.
"China also confirmed that Ferrari will be a threat in all conditions this year, not just when it's very hot. We will have new challenges to face as a team, with another competitor who is much closer to our level of performance."

'Floyd would run a mile from Khan'

Former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton believes British compatriot Amir Khan could be the man to dethrone Floyd Mayweather as boxing's pound-for-pound king.
Khan has been seeking a fight with Mayweather for almost two years, but the American WBC and WBA welterweight champion has spurned Khan's advances.
That's no surprise to Hatton, who believes Khan's blurring punches and rapid movement would hand Mayweather his first professional defeat.
"Amir is boxing with a lot more discipline lately, he's in and out and he's not getting involved. I think that type of style will cause Floyd massive problems. I think Floyd would run a mile.
"Amir's as big a name as is out there, he's beaten pretty much everyone, and Mayweather might be forced to fight him."
