  1. Hants and Middlesex chase big targetspublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

Following the wins for county champions Yorkshire and Durham on Tuesday, two more Division One games reach their conclusions today.

At the Ageas Bowl, newly-promoted Hampshire, 181-4 overnight, require 197 more runs to beat Sussex and achieve a record run chase at the ground.

And at Lord's, Middlesex will need to bat all day to avoid defeat by Nottinghamshire after being set an unlikely 519 to win.

Middlesex will resume on 57-1, with Nick Compton still there on 37.

Kyrgios, 19, beat Rafael Nadal at last year's Wimbledon and is now ranked 34 in the world

Britain's Andy Murray, Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic are the other top 10 players in the event, joined by world number 11 and defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, and four-time winner Lleyton Hewitt.

Stevens is facing a steep learning curve in his debut season in F1 but managed to finish last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

  7. Buffon has no plans to retirepublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says he has no immediate plans to retire and that it would be a waste to quit now when he feels he is still in top form.

The 37-year-old, speaking after Juventus beat Monaco 1-0 in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday evening, said: "At the first sign of slipping, I would be the first to bow out.

"But why bid farewell to football if you are playing well? I think one should stop playing when you go onto the field and see that you are no longer the same person."

Martin, Reading: My 10th birthday party was a football party, at the same time as Reading drew away at Leicester in 2006 to promote us to the Premier League for the first time ever. Most of my friends were Reading fans and we all went crazy. Best birthday present ever.

The Tottenham forward last played for Spurs in their defeat at Manchester United in March, but has apparently been busy improving his ball skills out on the patio, making hay while the sun shines.

Lovely slow-mo action at the end.

  10. Vaughan wants clarity on ECB rolepublished at 09:38 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

Former England captain Michael Vaughan says the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) newly created director of cricket role "needs defining" before he can fully declare his interest in the position.

    Michael Vaughan

Vaughan and fellow ex-captains Andrew Strauss and Alec Stewart are the leading candidates for the new role, created as part of a restructure following the departure of managing director Paul Downton.

Vaughan says there is no need for the ECB to "panic" and rush into a selection, stressing instead the importance of choosing the right long-term strategy for English cricket.

    Bradley WigginsImage source, EPA

Bradley Wiggins will attempt to add cycling's world hour record to his four Olympic gold medals and 2012 Tour de France title in London in June.

The 34-year-old will try to break Australian Rohan Dennis's mark of 52.491 km at the Olympic Velodrome on 7 June.

"The hour record is a holy grail for cyclists," said Wiggins, who finished his Team Sky career last weekend.

"It's been fought over tooth and nail by some of the greatest names in our sport for over a hundred years and it's time for me to have a crack at it."

  13. 'Starc will go to that next level'published at 09:25 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

    Mitchell StarcImage source, AP

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh says pace bowler Mitchell Starc will have no trouble in carrying his excellent World Cup form into this summer's Ashes series against England.

Left-armer Starc was named the player of the World Cup but is yet to cement his place in the Australian Test side after 15 matches.

"We've got so many bowlers at our disposal that we're capable of winning every Test match because we can take 20 wickets," Waugh said. "I think Starc will go to that next level in Test cricket as well."

  14. Juventus 1-0 Monacopublished at 09:18 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

    Arturo Vidal's penaltyImage source, AP

And in other French Champions League news, Monaco went down 1-0 away to Juventus in last night's other quarter-final first leg.

Arturo Vidal's penalty split the sides in Turin, although Monaco, who knocked Arsenal out of the last round, went close through Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco and Dimitar Berbatov.

Coach Leonardo Jardim wasn't happy though, claiming the result was a "big injustice" and the decisive spot-kick "inexistent".

  15. 'Pastore the best in the world'published at 09:12 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

If the opinion of former Manchester United striker Eric Cantona is anything to go by, and I certainly wouldn't argue with him, Paris Saint-Germain's top man is Javier Pastore.

    Javier PastoreImage source, Reuters

He's come under fire since his £37m move from Palermo in 2011 but this year seems to have finally turned the corner.

So far round the corner that Cantona has him as "the best player in the world".

  16. PSG v Barcelona (19:45 BST)published at 09:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

It'll be the third time these two teams have met in the Champions League this season, having already played home and away in the group stages.

    Lionel MessiImage source, Reuters

Barcelona have the edge on points from those fixtures, having beaten PSG 3-1 in Spain before losing 3-2 in France.

As if you needed me to tell you, Lionel Messi will be the one to watch. He's been particularly brilliant over the past couple of months, and this season has already scored 45 goals in 44 games.

Oh and there's Neymar and Luis Suarez too. They're not bad.

Naturally the front page of French sports newspaper L'Equipe is focussing on Paris Saint-German's date with destiny (or at least their first leg against fate?) this evening.

The French champions take on Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals in what should be a scintillating encounter at the Parc des Princes.

Some early cricket news for you away from England's Test in West Indies.

    Jason GillespieImage source, Getty Images

Former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie has been made the new coach of Big Bash League side Adelaide Strikers but will also remain in charge at Yorkshire.

The 39-year-old became Yorkshire coach in November 2011, and led them to the County Championship title last year.

He has agreed a two-year deal with the South Australian franchise starting in December, in the English off-season.

"I am looking forward to bringing back some experiences to Yorkshire which will improve our T20 cricket," he said.

  20. World Championship qualifyingpublished at 08:40 British Summer Time 15 April 2015

It's the last day of qualifying ahead of the World Championship, which gets under way in Sheffield on Saturday, at the iconic Crucible Theatre.

    Mark SelbyImage source, PA

Defending champion Mark Selby admits it took him months before he was able to come to terms with winning last year's title.

Selby staged a superb comeback to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 18-14 in the 2014 final and claim his first World Championship.

"It took a long while, months, for the fact that I'd done it to sink in. It is every snooker player's dream as they start out to become world champion and I did that."

We'll bring you the latest scores from Ponds Forge throughout the day.
