Ricky Hatton (right) fighting Floyd Mayweather in 2007

Here is a snippet of what he had to say...

"It's got a clash of styles and a clash of personalities - good guy versus bad guy... We'll still be talking about this fight in 30 or 40 years' time, just like we're still talking about the Ali-Frazier or Hagler-Hearns fights. Just as a boxing fan I'm excited. "I understand there's serious interest from at least five quarters - from China, the Far East and the USA - and that two of the consortiums involved have already started due diligence. This could take as little as three weeks, so the chairman's deadline could be met.

And another slightly odd story emanating from Italy ... AC Milan's players have been told they have to stay at their training ground indefinitely following Saturday's 2-1 Serie A loss at Udinese.

Players slept at the Milanello after the game and although they were allowed home after an extra training session on Sunday, they had to be back for dinner.

Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi and Marco Van Ginkel

The club said the 'ritiro' - confining players to headquarters - could last until the end of the season.

"The attitude during the game was wrong," explained coach Filippo Inzaghi. "There are very few excuses and the only thing to do now is to roll up our sleeves and do well in the last six matches, because we're Milan and our dignity is involved."

AC Milan, who are reportedly in takeover talks, are 10th in the Serie A table and set to miss out on European qualification.

Leicester's recent run of results means they are out of the bottom three for the first time since the end of November. Nigel Pearson has one clear message for his players, though: no complacency...

"There is still a lot of football to be played. Every game now has something riding on it. There's lots left to do," said the Foxes boss.

"The only thing that matters is that we're out on the bottom three after 38 games. To do that we have to remain focused."

  69. Nigel Pearson press conference

Leicester v Chelsea (Wed, 19:45 BST)

Nigel Pearson and his Leicester players are riding on the crest of a wave at the moment - one that may well wash them to Premier League safety. They face a major hurdle, though, in their quest to make five wins in a row with Chelsea heading to the King Power on Wednesday.

Pearson clearly shares something in common with his Chelsea opposite number Jose Mourinho, who has fended off accusations his side are boring by pointing to the points they have next to their name. Pearson has just had this to say to the media: "Results are more important than performances. It's been very satisfying to get four wins and it gives us a realistic chance."

"Steven Davies (81) and Gary Wilson (46) took Surrey past 300, but after they both departed Surrey first innings came to an abrupt end. Graham Napier did the damage whipping out Wilson, Curran and Dunn as Surrey were all out for 340.

  74. Durham struggle against Sussex

    Cricket

BBC Radio Newcastle's Martin Emmerson at Chester-le-Street:

"It's been a tough morning for Durham, who have been under pressure from the Sussex bowlers.

"Ollie Robinson and Matt Hobden were particularly efficient as they restricted the home side to just one boundary during an 11-over period, which also saw Scott Borthwick and Michael Richardson struck on the helmet by Hobden.

"Borthwick eventually went for 23 and Richardson for 37, the latter to the delivery which brought about lunch with Durham 189-5, still 146 adrift of Sussex's first innings score."

"Andre Adams picked up the wicket and also removed Will Gidman, with Gareth Berg quickly skittling out Vernon Philander.

"A tale of a morning of dropped catches. Geraint Jones spilled Ben Slater at first slip with the first ball of the day and Billy Godleman gave two chances in an over.

"The first flew through Chris Dent and then Liam Norwell seemed to have done everything correctly at long leg but the ball escaped him as he tumbled over.

"Derbyshire went serenely on to 118-1 with Slater finishing on 51 not out in reply to the home side's 275."

"Having lost Sam Robson to the second ball of the day and fellow England hopeful Nick Compton not long after, Middlesex will be relieved to have reached lunch on 123-2.

"The consensus at the ground is that Somerset probably overachieved in the first innings of 408 on a green pitch that is offering assistance to the bowlers.

"The visiting skipper Adam Voges is unbeaten on 27 and opener Nick Gubbins has 61 but the former is certainly the prized wicket for the hosts."

Record-breaker James Anderson has described the last two weeks as the "most emotional and satisfying" of his career.

The 32-year-old picked up his 384th wicket during the first Test against the West Indies to overtake Sir Ian Botham's previous marker - something Anderson labelled as "fairytale stuff".

    Anderson

He then followed that up with three wickets, two catches and a run-out during Saturday's morning session and England went on to win the second Test by nine wickets.

"To beat Sir Ian Botham's record and then to follow that by helping us to a brilliant win is almost beyond words," Anderson said in his column in The Sun.

  91. Jose Mourinho news conference

Leicester v Chelsea (Wed, 19:45 BST)

Another hack asks Mourinho about John Terry, wondering if the Chelsea boss thinks his skipper is the best centre back of all time.

"I don't like to compare generations," says Jose. "It is something in football that is unfair.

"In this generation I think he is the best centre-back. So many caps, so many battles, so many amazing number of matches, and a good goalscorer considering his position. "

And a little more on Leicester, who Jose speaks highly of: "I was surprised with their position. For me they are a good team. I played them earlier in the season and I could feel the quality of the team.

"I am now not surprised they are out of the relegation zone. I will not be surprised if they keep the position. They are playing well.

"They played Saturday and we played Sunday but we will try to recover the players as best as we can. At this moment we do not have such a big squad to make lots of rotations."

  93. Jose Mournho news conference

Leicester v Chelsea (Wed, 19:45 BST)

At last, someone has remembered there is actually a match taking place involving Chelsea and that's what we're here to talk about.

"Everybody will travel to Leicester, even the ones who are not able to play," Mourinho tells the media.

Asked if Diego Costa will feature, he replies: "I don't know about Costa. I have to think if it deserves a gamble or if we wait to be sure.

    Costa

"If it was a player without an injury history I would play him but I have to think about this because of his injury history. We need five points. After Leicester we still have four matches."

  94. Jose Mourinho news conference

Leicester v Chelsea (Wed, 19:45 BST)

Mourinho is glowing in his praise of skipper John Terry, and has a slight dig at past Chelsea managers in the process of talking up his centre half.

"The two seasons prior to my arrival he was not an important player for Chelsea managers," said Mourinho.

    Terry

"He was on the bench. They were anticipating his departure. Last season was good for him. This season he is better.

"I am happy with everything he is doing. For sure, Arsenal was one of his best performances for Chelsea. It was clean."

Mourinho was asked whether there should have been even more than six Chelsea players in the PFA team of the season. "Yes" he answered with no hint of a smile. "It should have been all of them."

Mourinho criticised the selection for featuring too many attacking players and was particularly vexed by the absence of Cesc Fabregas.

"If you look at that team and for example, Cesc Fabregas and the number of assists he has this season, it is strange that he is not included," he said.

A very brave journalist has just suggested to Jose that Chelsea are boring.

Remarkably Mourinho took it calmly, shrugged his shoulders in that trademark slightly disinterested fashion of his, and replied: "I am not sure of that. I met an Arsenal fan this morning who lives next door to me and he congratulates me and said I was spot on in my press conference.

"If we are boring and if the number of goals is what decides who is good, bad or boring, then we have in the Premier League 18 teams who are more boring than us.

"Only Man City is a team with more quality than us on this criteria. I don't accept that criteria.

"If the best team is the one with less defeats we are the best. If the best team is the team that leads, we are the best team."

If Eden Hazard wanted glowing praise from his manager for winning the PFA player of the year award, he's going to be disappointed.

    Jose

However, the Chelsea boss does lighten up a little, going on to say: "It is more important to be a champion. It is nice and he deserves it.

"I am happy for him and happy for every player that helped him to achieve the level he has achieved this season."

Scotland Under-21 midfielder McGinn was left with blood pouring from a wound in his thigh after the bizarre incident, which happened when McGinn robbed Thompson (pictured) of possession during a dribbling routine.

    Thompson

"I'm just mortified by the whole thing," Thompson told the Scottish Sun. "It was a daft prank. It wasn't like I threw the pole out of anger or anything like that. That's not what happened."

McGinn missed St Mirren's 4-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday and is likely to be out of action for another three weeks of action.

  112. #moreboringthanchelsea

Christian Evans: Finishing second in the Premier League is #moreboringthanchelsea

Peter Hatch: RU scrums are the most boring thing in sport just now. 3 or 4 attempts to set up and always end up with a penalty.

Melis: #moreboringthanchelsea John Carver's interviews. Not a Toon fan but if his coaching style is like the way he talks to reporters I sympathise.

  113. Brendan Rodgers press conference

Sturridge may not play this season

Here is some more from Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers on Daniel Sturridge: "It has been difficult for Daniel. He's a good lad who wants to play and be working and helping the team. It's just been one of those seasons for him where it has been very unfortunate.

"We are going to have monitor that day by day and see where he's at.

"When he's been fit he's been brilliant for the team. We need to get to get him back fit for and consistently playing. But we will see if that's going to be this season or the pre-season."

    Tennis

    Heather Watson

Coming up later: Heather Watson plays her first round match at the Prague Open today. She is still hoping that she can be among the 32 seeds for next month's French Open.

Currently ranked 40, Watson plays her first match (at around 14:00 BST) against Slovenia's Polona Hercog.

  115. Swansea winger has ankle op

    Football

Bad news for Swansea winger Wayne Routledge - he will miss the rest of the season after undergoing an ankle operation.

    Routledge

Routledge needed surgery now to cure the long-standing injury in order for him to return in time for pre-season training.

The 30-year-old missed Swansea's 3-2 Premier League win at Newcastle on Saturday and will sit out the remaining games this season against Stoke, Arsenal, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

  116. Brendan Rodgers press conference

Sturridge may not play this season

    Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking at a press conference this morning ahead of his side's trip to Hull tomorrow and has revealed that he's unsure if Daniel Sturridge will return from injury before the end of the season.

"We'll see if he's going to be back this season or pre-season," said Rodgers, who added that it has been "one of those seasons" for the 25-year-old striker.

Sturridge hasn't been available for selection since Liverpool's FA Cup quarter-final replay win at Blackburn earlier this month.

    Boxing

    Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

  119. Your marathon pictures

Paula Radcliffe competes at the London Marathon

Roughly 37,500 people will be finding it extra hard to get out of bed this morning as a result of their exertions across the 26.2 miles of Sunday's London Marathon. Paula Radcliffe was on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning admitting to still being overwhelmed by the crowd's reaction to her run and more than a little stiff.

Like every year, it was another colourful affair in the capital. So what we would like is for you to share your best pictures of yesterday's action, via Get Inspired, which will also help convert those of you who watched it on the telly to the cult of running.

  120. Up the Cherries

    Football

How about this for a newspaper front page?

It's the Daily Echo in Bournemouth, who are clearly right behind the Cherries push for promotion.

    Daily Echo

Bournemouth play Bolton tonight. Victory and they will almost certainly be assured of promotion to the Premier League. Dean Court will be bouncing.

  121. 'An embarrassment' - Shearer

    Football

And while we're talking Newcastle, one of the club's most famous players has voiced his fears about the possibility of relegation.

Writing in today's The Sun, Alan Shearer said: "Have no doubts about it - Newcastle are now in real danger of going down.

"I didn't think so until Saturday but after that performance I can't actually say with any certainty that we will get another point this season."

Shearer defended under-fire boss John Carver, adding: "Why don't the Newcastle players start taking some responsibility? Because right now they are an embarrassment."

  122. 'I need protection' - Carver

    Football

It's fair to say John Carver isn't having an easy time as Newcastle boss at the moment.

After a seventh straight defeat on Saturday - beaten 3-2 at home by Swansea - Carver has called for more protection after saying he was "abused" by fans.

    Carver

"I am not going to stand out there and be abused during the game. The club has to do something about it," he said.

"I knew it wouldn't be easy. Sometimes it is quite difficult to stand in that technical area and be abused the way I was abused without any protection from the sidelines."

Newcastle are five points above the Premier League relegation zone with four games to go.

  123. Party time

Many happy returns to Martin Chivers, a man blasting goals for Tottenham long before Harry Kane was even on the planet.

Chivers, 69 today, scored 118 goals in 278 games for Spurs between 1968 and 76 and hit 13 goals in 24 England games too.

L Higgins: PFA's omission of Swansea keeper Łukasz Fabianski, was mind boggling. Far more rounded keeper than De Gea.

    De Gea

Lance Fuller: Fonte for Cahill. It's rough that only one player from the Saints, who have the best defensive record is in there.

MJF: If you want Coutinho out because he only has 4 assists then Mignolet has to go in with his 13 clean sheet.

Emmanuel Ejii: I don't see the point of disputing the TOTY cos fellow pros voted these players.

Give us a break Emmanuel, we'd have nothing to talk about otherwise...

  125. Radcliffe on marathon magic

It's the morning after the night before for the 37,500 people who ran the London marathon yesterday and if you were one of them, I'd imagine those hammies a feeling a bit tight.

The headline-grabber on the day was none other than Paula Radcliffe, who ran the 26.2-mile course in two hours 36 minutes 55 seconds, less than three years after surgery on a serious foot injury. And the 41-year-old has been talking to the BBC this morning.

"I'm still trying to absorb the special memories from yesterday. (The Crowd) was like a wall of noise, emotion and encouragement. It did feel like they enabled me to run much faster yesterday than I thought I was capable of with the preparation that I had but at the same time was actually irrelevant because I just wanted to absorb as much as possible. I didn't think I'd be able to top the experiences of 2002, 03 and 05 but I think yesterday did."

  126. Bigger role for Bjorkman

    Tennis

Andy Murray's new coach Jonas Bjorkman will spend the whole of the summer with the British number one.

    Bjorkman

The Swede will be with Murray's team through Wimbledon and until at least the end of the US Open in September as main coach Amelie Mauresmo prepares to have her first child in August.

Former world number four Bjorkman, 43, links up with Murray, 27, for the first time at this week's BMW Open in Munich.

The arrangement was initially a five-week trial.

  127. Bayern wrap up title

    Football

All hail Bayern Munich. The German giants have won their third straight Bundesliga title thanks to Wolfsburg's 1-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Pep Guardiola's side beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 on Saturday to put them within sight of the title.

    Bayern

Wolfsburg had to beat Gladbach to make Bayern wait another week for a 25th Bundesliga title but lost to a Max Kruse goal.

It's proving a pretty good season for Bayern, who are are still in the Champions League and German Cup semis.

  130. #moreboringthanchelsea

Now then, it seems football philosopher Jose Mourinho may have given us fuel for a debate this Monday morning. As you are no doubt aware, he bristled at suggestions that Chelsea have been "boring" recently and suggested it was far "more boring" to go 10 years without winning the title, a la Arsenal.

So, we'd like to know what's the most "boring" thing you've ever seen in sport? It might be a team, a match, or a sport in itself? A player, an athlete, a coach? A ridiculous rule? Send us your entries via the hashtag #moreboringthanchelsea and we'll feature the best on this very page.

  131. Eight-month ban - ends Friday

    Badminton

Former world number one Lee Chong Wei has been given a eight-month ban for a doping violation at the badminton world championships last August.

But the ban is backdated, which means Wei can return to competition in four days time - on May 1.

Announcing the sanction today, the Badminton World Federation said Lee tested positive for Dexamethasone and that the source was a contaminated food supplement he had been taking.

  132. Heading Down Under

    Football

Chelsea's title-winners (probably) won't have much time to put their feet up and celebrate success.

The Blues have announced a friendly against Sydney FC in Australia on June 2.

    Chelsea

Boss Jose Mourinho said last month that a tour was being planned to celebrate the club's Capital One Cup win.

It's the start of a busy, jet-setting summer for the Blues, who are also heading to North America for the International Champions Cup. Blimey, they'll be shattered before next season's even begun.

  134. 'Best player on the planet'

    Football

Robbie Savage might not be convinced that Eden Hazard deserved to be the PFA's player of the year (Savage thought Harry Kane should have been given the nod), but fellow BBC pundit Alan Shearer has no doubts.

    getty

Shearer believes Hazard is a worthy winner and has even tipped the Belgian to become the best player on the planet - bold words indeed.

"Hazard is only going to get better," said Shearer. "In three or four years, I think we could be talking about the Belgian being the best player in the world - he has the potential to be that good."

  135. Everything's Rosey

    Golf

And while we're on the golf, take a bow Justin Rose.

The in-form Englishman birdied the last two holes to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Sunday.

    getty

It was a seventh PGA Tour title for the 34-year-old, who won by one shot from American Cameron Tringale.

Rose, the world number nine and runner-up at the Masters recently, posted a 22-under-par total of 266.

    Full story here.

  136. Mickelson missing

    Golf

Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from this week's WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship in San Francisco for personal reasons.

    Mickelson

The 44-year-old five-time major winner said he is "disappointed" to miss the knockout event.

Finland's Mikko Ilonen, who won last year's Volvo World Match Play Championship, is Mickelson's replacement.

Defending champion Jason Day is ranked seventh for this year's event, which features the world's top 64-ranked players.

  137. Ronnie readies himself

    Snooker

Ronnie O'Sullivan - with, hopefully, a pair of shoes on - and fellow former champions Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson are in action at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

    getty

Play starts at the Crucible at 13:00 BST with Murphy resuming his second round match against Joe Perry 12-4 up and needing only a frame to complete victory, while Judd Trump leads Marco Fu 10-6.

O'Sullivan, leading Matthew Stevens 12-4, and Robertson (11-5 up on Ali Carter), are in action at 19:00.

  138. Footie happenings

Right then, what have we got coming up throughout the course of the day, we hear you ask? Well, plenty is the answer.

Bournemouth face Bolton at 19:45 BST in a match worth an estimated £130m to the club, for that's what the experts reckon promotion to the Premier League is worth these days.

    Bournemouth

A win tonight and the Cherries - barring a final day defeat coupled with a 17-0 win for Middlesbrough ... so unlikely then - will be able to start counting the cash.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers (10:00 BST). Jose Mourinho (12:00), Hull's Steve Bruce (12:30) and Nigel Pearson at Leicester (14:00) are all giving news conferences. The four clubs are in action over the next couple of nights - it's Hull v Liverpool on Tuesday (19:45) and Leicester-Chelsea on Wednesday (19:45).

We'll bring you the best of what the managers say.

  139. Savage disagrees

    Football

But not everyone agrees Hazard should have been the PFA's top man.

BBC pundit Robbie Savage, for instance, thinks it should have been someone else.

These PFA awards seem to be getting a bit like the Oscars, with a bundle of other awards handed out too.

Former England midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard shared the PFA Merit award.

"I'm a young boy from a council estate who has worked ever so hard to get to where I am today," said Gerrard, successfully ticking every 'must act humble' box.

Full round up here of the all the awards, plus the divisional teams of the year.

  143. Take a bow Harry

    Football

It isn't just Hazard celebrating today.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane capped a phenomenal breakthrough season by winning PFA Young Player of the Year.

    getty

Kane has 30 goals in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season and scored on his England debut against Lithuania in March.

"It is amazing. It is a very proud moment for myself and my family - hopefully the first of many to come," said a beaming Kane.

"I have got to keep working hard, but to be recognised by your fellow players is something special and it is a night I won't forget."

  144. Hazard top dog

    Football

So then, let's give Mr Hazard a much deserved moment in the spotlight.

A few hours after helping Chelsea edge just that little bit closer to the Premier League title, the 24-year-old hot-footed it across London to collect the PFA Player of the Year award.

    Hazard

After lifting the trophy, Hazard, who has has scored 13 goals and made eight assists in 33 Premier League games, said: "I don't know if I deserve to win but it is good for me.

"It is better to be voted by the players - they know everything about football."
