  2. On this daypublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

Given it's the week of one of the most eagerly-awaited fights in recent boxing history (that's Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao, in case you don't get out much), how appropriate that today marks the anniversary of the retirement of one of the greatest ever fighters.

It was on this day in 1956 that, after 49 consecutive victories, Rocky Marciano hung up his gloves while still undefeated heavyweight champion of the world.

Now that's called bowing out while on top.

Tragically Marciano died just 13 years later, when he was killed in a plane crash in Iowa the day before his 46th birthday.

  3. Selfie blow at Wimbledonpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

Now brace yourselves - there's some bad news emerging from Wimbledon.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club has announced that selfie sticks are banned at this year's tournament.

    I know, devastating isn't it?

A spokesman for the club told the Sunday Times the move was brought in partly because of the "nuisance value" but "primarily so it doesn't interfere with spectators' enjoyment".

  4. 'Fair result' - Van Gaalpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

Honesty when assessing their team's performance is not always a trait you associate with Premier League managers.

So fair play Louis van Gaal, who had no complaints with Man United's beating at Everton.

After the Reds lost 3-0, the United boss said: "This was the first match when I saw a team that was more motivated and aggressive than us. It is not good, but we are human beings.

"We have to see that our opponents will defend more and cope with that as a club. Everton deserved to win - when the result is fair, you can live with it."

  8. Looking tightpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

Now you know how we all complain that football these days is boring, the same old teams win the same old titles?

Well, that ain't so in Algeria's Ligue 1. Take a gander at this...

    TwitterImage source, Twitter

With four games to play, 11 points separate top and bottom, meaning all 16 teams can still win the title - or get relegated.

The table gets weirder the more you examine it. MC Oran, for instance, are third but have scored less goals than any other side, while Bejaia have lost four of their last five but are still somehow second. The fourth-placed team, meanwhile, have a goal difference of -1.

As Dizzee Rascal might put it, bonkers.

J Slats: Arsene Wenger's constant moaning, and the fact he 'did no see it'.

The London Marathon always comes complete with a unique set of stories. This year, one latecomer got her own private start to the race.

Although, as runner Helen Clarke herself later tweeted to us to explain, she had been waiting to start with a friend who was in a different wave of runners. "I wasn't late!" she said.

You can catch up on Helen Clarke's own marathon tale courtesy of our video.

  11. Dunn announces Blackburn departurepublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

David Dunn has announced he will leave Championship side Blackburn at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old, who earned his one England cap in 2002, joined Rovers as an eight-year-old and progressed through the youth system.

After 169 appearances, he joined Birmingham in 2003 for £5.5m but injuries meant just 69 outings.

He returned to Ewood Park in 2007 and played another 208 games but has made just two starts this season.

  13. Apology for spiked pole through leg prankpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

St Mirren skipper Steven Thompson says is "mortified" after lobbing a spiked pole at team-mate John McGinn's leg during a training-ground prank.

Scotland Under-21 midfielder McGinn was left with blood pouring from a wound in his thigh after the bizarre incident, which happened when McGinn robbed Thompson (pictured) of possession during a dribbling routine.

"I'm just mortified by the whole thing," Thompson told the Scottish Sun. "It was a daft prank. It wasn't like I threw the pole out of anger or anything like that. That's not what happened."

McGinn missed St Mirren's 4-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday and is likely to be out of action for another three weeks of action.

Christian Evans: Finishing second in the Premier League is #moreboringthanchelsea

Peter Hatch: RU scrums are the most boring thing in sport just now. 3 or 4 attempts to set up and always end up with a penalty.

Melis: #moreboringthanchelsea John Carver's interviews. Not a Toon fan but if his coaching style is like the way he talks to reporters I sympathise.

  15. Brendan Rodgers press conferencepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 27 April 2015

Here is some more from Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers on Daniel Sturridge: "It has been difficult for Daniel. He's a good lad who wants to play and be working and helping the team. It's just been one of those seasons for him where it has been very unfortunate.

"We are going to have monitor that day by day and see where he's at.

"When he's been fit he's been brilliant for the team. We need to get to get him back fit for and consistently playing. But we will see if that's going to be this season or the pre-season."
