    Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has said he expects the club to be competing for trophies in all competitions next season.

    Woodward made his comments in a statement that accompanied the release of United's third quarter results to 31 March 2015.

    Overall revenue for the quarter was down 17.7% year-on-year as a result of the club not being in the Champions League.

    But commercial revenues were up 11.7% for the quarter at £47.8 million.

    Woodward said: "We are pleased with the team's performance in Louis van Gaal's first season as manager and are well positioned to achieve a top four finish in the Premier League and to return to European football next year."

    After a 20-year career, goalkeeper Brad Friedel is hanging up his gloves at the end of the season, aged 44.

    His former clubs have been paying tribute to him on Twitter.

    Carl Froch has told BBC Sport he will make a decision on his future early next week.

    The 37-year-old British fighter was recently stripped of his WBA super-middleweight belt for not defending his title.

    He has not fought since defeating George Groves at Wembley nearly a year ago, and a clash with Julio Chavez Jr in Las Vegas in March fell through because of an elbow injury.

    "I've got meetings in the next few days and I'll make a decision early next week," he said.

    Lancashire opening batsman Luis Reece has been left with a broken hand following an unexplained dressing room incident after their defeat by Gloucestershire.

    Reece has had two ducks already this season and averages just 8.57 runs.

    The 24-year-old left-hander managed scores of 16 and two as the Red Rose lost for the first time this season against Glos.

    When asked what had happened, Lancashire's cricket director Ashley Giles said: "I'm not quite sure yet. I'll have to look into that situation and I can let you know when the time's right. I need to speak to him, get to the bottom of it and see where we go."

    The USA international turns 44 on Monday.

    Spain's national court has suspended the player's strike in La Liga meaning Barcelona could clinch the title if they beat defending champions Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

    The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) had suspended the end of the season, with the players' union (AFE) agreeing to strike, in a row over TV rights, putting the final two league games and the Copa del Rey final in doubt.

    The Spanish Cup final will now go ahead on 30 May, with Barca playing Athletic Bilbao at the Nou Camp.

    The Football Association has published its first ever plan on how to tackle the lack of British Asians in football.

    Only eight homegrown Asian players had professional deals across England's top four divisions in 2013.

    And following consultation forums across the country, the FA says it will now provide more support to grassroots clubs developing Asian players.

    Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley is preparing for tonight's League Two play-off semi-final second leg with Stevenage, as the Football League's young player of the month.

    The 21-year-old, who has kept a record 12 consecutive home clean sheets, became a keeper rather than left-back partly down to the fact he was a Peter Schmeichel fan.

    "I loved Peter Schmeichel at the time and it almost became a no-brainer," he told BBC Sport. "When I was in goal everything felt natural and like I was in the right place on the pitch."

    His boss Phil Brown, says: "I watched him on the training ground and everything about him was almost Schmeichel-esque."

    He has been talking to BBC Sport about his mixed emotions - and looking back on his try-filled career.

    "I'm not comparing my final game to getting married, but you just don't know - I think I'm prepared and ready."
