    On the "bad eggs": "There have been some issues but we dealt with them at the time. Unfortunately these things happen in football and our dirty laundry has come out. We have dealt with the situation and will draw a line underneath it and move on."

    Midfielder Joey Barton had said before the 6-0 defeat to Manchester City that "bad eggs", external in the dressing room had contributed to the club's relegation. Various newspapers have since reported the names of players believed to be the "bad eggs" referred to.

    On his future at West Ham: "It was always going to be at the end of the season when the future was discussed, so there's no news on that."

    On goal-scoring form: "The lack of goals has been the big factor for us in recent weeks and what really brought it home for me was when we had 29 attempts at home to Burnley and only scored a penalty."

    On a possible European place: "Europe affects the smaller teams far more than the bigger teams. When I was there with Bolton we managed to cope admirably."

    Gareth Bale's gone all defiant on us, vowing to "return stronger" for Real Madrid after receiving criticism from his own fans during their Champions League semi-final defeat by Juventus.

    The 25-year-old Wales forward missed several opportunities as Juve set up a final against Barcelona.

    "There have been some ups and downs but I think I've played well," he said.

    "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger and I'll learn from this season and take it on."

    Contract negotiations with Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne are "in a good place" according to the club's director of football Les Reed.

    "Nathaniel has said he is happy here" said Reed, speaking to the club's YouTube channel. "We are at a very good place at the moment and I'm confident we will have a resolution sooner rather than later."

    Saints manager Ronald Koeman had given Clyne, a target for Manchester United, a deadline to sort his future out. The England international's deal at St Mary's ends in June 2016.

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been talking about the injury latest on full-back Leighton Baines.

    "We had Leighton's ankle checked. He has had surgery. It was straight-forward. He will be out until the start of pre-season," said Martinez, ahead of his side's trip to West Ham.

    "We have found the solution [to the ankle problem]. His time out will now allow him to be refreshed."

    Baines was taken off after 74 minutes in last weekend's defeat by Sunderland, and that's his season over.
