No fresh injuries for Walespublished at 14:52

    Rugby Union

Wales captain Sam Warburton said his side were 'spent' after their win over Fiji on Thursday night but skills coach Neil Jenkins has good news on the injury front after the many issues they have had.

"There are a lot of battered bodies but we will be ok," he said.

"We have got a nice turnaround, and the boys can look forward to this weekend and then look forward to a big Test match against Australia next weekend."

    Lionel MessiImage source, AFP

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty is doing a question and answer session for Sportsday live readers today...

Daniel Grant asks: Can you see Lionel Messi ever leaving Barcelona? and how much do you think he is worth in today's market?

Phil answers: It is very hard to see that day arriving Daniel - although even Messi can't go on forever, and certainly not at Barcelona. It's hard to guess at a fee but if Gareth Bale is worth £85m (and this is in no way an implied criticism of Bale) then you might ask £130m for Messi I suppose... but would Barcelona even blink?

'No fear' for McClarenpublished at 14:44

Manchester City v Newcastle United (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren's news conference has revealed he wants his team to play with "no fear" when they take on Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

He is also buoyed by last week's 2-2 draw against Chelsea, saying: "After seven games we are starting to get a little closer to our starting XI, our system of play and our style."

McClaren mentions that Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Massadio Haidara and Jack Colback (hamstring) are all out of contention for Saturday.

    Rooney & MartialImage source, Reuters

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty is doing a question and answer session for Sportsday live readers today...

Vicky Gaskin asks: Wayne Rooney's performance against Wolfsburg in the Champions League brought more criticism - but do you think the arrival of Antony Martial and his ability to stretch defences with pace, can revitalise Rooney? And would England manager Roy Hodgson seriously consider leaving him out?

Phil answers: Two questions for the price of one Vicky, but happy to answer both. I think Martial can be catalyst for Rooney because he carries that X Factor and something of the unknown.

He can go wide and get in behind defences, opening up the spaces for Rooney in a 'number 10' role, where he still has the ability to create so much and still get goals.

I suspect Hodgson was just thinking out loud when he suggested no-one's England place is guaranteed. He would never guarantee anyone a place - but I think Rooney's place is as guaranteed as anyone else's.

    Football

Carneiro goes on: "Last season I had a similar experience at a game at West Ham FC, where I was subject to verbal abuse. Following complaints by the public, the FA produced a communication to the press saying there had been no sexist chanting during this game.

"At no time was I approached for a statement despite the fact that vile unacceptable, sexually explicit abuse was clearly heard.

"It is incidents such as these and the lack of support from the football authorities that make it so difficult for women in the game.

"I admire what Heather Rabbatts has done and thank her and friends and colleagues who have supported me at this very difficult time."

Carneiro's statement: "I was surprised to learn that the FA was allegedly investigating the incident of 8 August via the press.

"I was at no stage requested by the FA to make a statement. I wonder whether this might be the only formal investigation in this country where the evidence of the individuals involved in the incident was not considered relevant.

"Choosing to ignore some of the evidence will surely influence the outcome of the findings."

Wake Monk up now September's ended!published at 13:55

"Swansea City boss Garry Monk will be glad to see the back of September. After an unbeaten start to the season they failed to win a game last month and go into Sunday's clash at home to Tottenham without a victory in four matches.

"Monk always seems calm and in control when speaking to the media [as he will be doing at 14:00 BST] but could be considering making changes to his team before the international break.

"In his 18 months in charge he's masterminded victories over Arsenal and Manchester United, whilst the club have also beaten Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City since promotion to the Premier League in 2011.

"However, they have yet to beat Spurs in any competition but will hope the North Londoners are still feeling the effects of their Europa League exploits in Monaco last night when they arrive in South Wales on Sunday."

Former world number one Venus Williams fought back from a set down to see off Italy's Roberto Vinci 5-7 6-2 7-6 (7-4) and make the final of the Wuhan Open.

The 35-year-old American, who also needed three sets to beat Britain's Johanna Konta on Thursday will face either fifth seed Garbine Muguruza or Germany's Angelique Kerber in the final.

Vinci had stunned Williams's sister Serena in the US Open semi-finals last month.

    Brendan RodgersImage source, Reuters

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty is doing a question and answer session for Sportsday live readers today. Here's his first offering...

Solomon Usman asks: Do you think Brendan Rodgers will still be Liverpool boss if he loses heavily to Everton?

Phil answers: Cutting to the chase straight away here, Solomon. I obviously cannot read the minds of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group - who will ultimately make that decision.

What I do think is that if Liverpool are well beaten at Everton then Rodgers will have a very serious problem and his future will be called into question.

Few things are more painful than a Merseyside derby defeat - it would mean those fans who are already against him will become more entrenched and those who are still supporting him will have renewed doubts.

This could be a defining fixture - lose it and his job will be in serious question, win it and Liverpool's world suddenly looks a much better place.

Rob Kearney and Jared Payne have both lost their fitness battles for Ireland's crucial World Cup clash with Italy on Sunday (16:45 BST) at London's Olympic Stadium.

Kearney has a mild muscle strain while Payne has a bruised foot. Simon Zebo comes in at full-back with Keith Earls in the centre while Connacht centre Robbie Henshaw will make his World Cup debut after missing the first two matches of the tournament with hamstring trouble.

Victory for Ireland will secure their quarter-final place, with France still to play in the group stages.

A step closer to a London NFL franchise?published at 13:20

    George OsborneImage source, AFP

"London's long courtship of the NFL (or is it the other way around?) is rounding second base and heading to third, although that, of course, is the wrong sport.

"But that did not seem to matter at Downing Street this morning, where Chancellor George Osborne took a break from reviving northern England to give NFL legends Dan Marino and Curtis Martin a rugby ball, and get an American football in return.

"The exchange of most value, however, will have been the quiet assurances from the man in charge of Britain's tax regime to the NFL's ambassador to the Court of St James that a benign view will be taken of the relocation of a small company of very large millionaires. Osborne cannot do much more apart from wear a London Monarchs jersey to Parliament."
