While most of the attention has been on the departure of Brendan Rodgers, it's worth remembering that he wasn't the only Premier League manager to leave his post on Sunday after Dick Advocaat's departure from struggling Sunderland.
The 68-year-old Dutchman came in to mastermind a nine-game rescue mission at the end of the last campaign and had been persuaded to delay his retirement plans for a year.
However, the Black Cats, who drew 2-2 with West Ham on Saturday, are still waiting for their first league win of the season.

Rodgers was dismissed after Sunday's 1-1 draw at Everton, which left the Reds 10th in the Premier League - but the decision was made before the game.
"Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch," read a club statement.
"The search for a new manager is under way and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner."

The fall-out - and there has been plenty of it - from England's embarrassingly early exit from the World Cup continues...
Clermont full-back Nick Abendanon has told BBC Radio 5 live that England's policy of not selecting foreign-based players is "criminal".
"By not making their best players available they're not giving themselves the best opportunity," said Abendanon.
"The most upsetting thing for me is the fact that England haven't given themselves the best opportunity to win the World Cup."

"Fenway Sports Group's decision to sack Rodgers was made before the Merseyside derby, but the owners did not want to disrupt preparations for the match by making an announcement before the game.
"Even a victory at Goodison Park would not have prevented Rodgers losing his job.
"Rodgers was not told at Goodison Park. He was visited at home by Ian Ayre and I am told he took the news with dignity and good grace. Many of the players are now off on international duty and so there was was no chance to say goodbye to them."

Daily Telegraph
Like many others, the Daily Telegraph suggests that Liverpool see Jurgen Klopp as more of a natural fit at Anfield than Carlo Ancelotti.
"Klopp’s familiarity with Liverpool’s club model – and comfort working at a club where others have more control over recruitment – is attractive to the Anfield owners," Chris Bascombe writes in the newspaper. , external
Here is how Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reacted to the news of Brendan Rodgers' sacking. He was speaking in the news conference after the Gunners' 3-0 win against Manchester United.
"I'm always sad when that happens as I think he is a quality manager," he said. "Unfortunately the pressure is always bigger on the managers.
"He was very unlucky to not win the Premier League. He was closest certainly to winning the Premier League of all the managers that have been working for the club, but that is the way it goes now and I wish him good luck. I'm sure he will find a job again."

What with all this Brendan Rodgers talk it's a surprise to discover there is other sport going on.
But there is! Over in the United Arab Emirates in fact, where England are up against Pakistan A in the first of two two-day tour games before the first Test starts on 13 October.
Moeen Ali opens the batting alongside Alastair Cook (that's them above, striding to the crease in what looks distinctly better conditions than where we're sat in Salford this morning), with Jonny Bairstow preferred to James Taylor at 5.
Among the bowlers, the main news is that Mark Wood is preferred to Steven Finn.
Play is under way and England are 21-0, Cook on 14, Ali on 10.

“No-one wants to see a manager get sacked but the bar was set when the owners sacked Kenny Dalglish for finishing eighth, getting into two cup finals and winning one of them. From there to now I don’t really see much progression. Brendan, when he went into Liverpool, talked about a philosophy, which I know many people were slightly confused about.
“Looking from the outside now, I don’t seen an identity, I don’t see who their best players are, what the plan is or what the best system is. So from that point of view I was pretty confused.
“From the beginning of this season, with his two coaches going I thought he was a dead man walking. As soon as he was going to have a bad run I felt the inevitable would happen."
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright thinks Jurgen Klopp would not be the right man for Liverpool.
He said on BBC Radio 5 live on Sunday: "I feel Liverpool have already been in contact someone. Their statement said they were going to act decisively and timely, which says to me they have been in touch with someone who has said 'yes, they will come but it has to be now'.
“I would worry with Jurgen Klopp, he brings exciting football, passion and respect from the players. That is fine if he can come in and Liverpool stop conceding goals and he can see green shoots but I think Liverpool should go with someone with real experience, European experience, like Carlo Ancelotti."

The Liverpool Echo reports, external that Liverpool are set to make an approach for Jurgen Klopp this week.
According to the newspaper, Carlo Ancelotti and Frank de Boer also come under consideration but Klopp is viewed as the ideal replacement by Anfield’s hierarchy.

"The mood of Brendan Rodgers shortly before he was sacked as Liverpool manager was in keeping with his demeanour this season. Rodgers insisted he was not feeling pressure and fired off a few salvoes of self-defence, insisting Liverpool would improve in the months ahead.
"And yet, as there has been all season, there was a sense a spark was missing from a young manager who exuded positivity from the moment he walked into Anfield in the summer of 2012. It was almost as if he was on auto-pilot, not as a manager but with the media.
"Rodgers looked tired and drawn, perhaps easy to say with hindsight, but actually did not give the impression he knew what was coming in the next hour.
"He drew a deep breath as he left his final inquisition as Liverpool manager - walking out of the door at Goodison Park and within an hour out of the door at Anfield."
