  2. France news conference

    Football

    Joe Wilson

    BBC News sports correspondent

"Today's media conference was a serious, sombre occasion with both France's captain and manager addressing the magnitude of the occasion.

"As Didier Deschamps described it, this match is a 'duty'. Hugo Lloris meanwhile spoke of a 'moment of solidarity' between France and England. It's clear that the decision to go ahead with this game was made by the Federation and the players are doing their best to get in the right frame of mind to actually perform. But as Deschamps said, this match now has a significance to the French nation far beyond French football."

  3. McNamara future yet to be decided

    Rugby League

The Rugby Football League will take its time over the possible re-appointment of Steve McNamara as England coach, with a decision not expected until the New Year at the earliest.

The 44-year-old former Bradford boss' tenure came after leading England to a series-clinching win over New Zealand on Saturday. He will now return to the Sydney Roosters, where he works full-time as an assistant coach.

RFL chief executive Nigel Wood said: "We will sit down with Steve at an appropriate time in the coming months to discuss the progress of the England programme and the national team and to talk about the future."

  4. England-France friendly

    Football

London mayor Boris Johnson, who will attend the England-France friendly on Tuesday night said it was "absolutely right" for the match to go ahead, in spite of the attacks in Paris.

"The horrific atrocities perpetrated in Paris on Friday were an attack on our very way of life, our freedom, our democracy," he said. "Of course we can never be complacent, and tomorrow's game will be policed appropriately, but I can't think of a better riposte to this ideology of hate than to carry on with our lives, our loves and our passions."

  5. Connacht's Russian adventure

    Rugby Union

Connacht are still enduring a difficult journey back from Russia almost two days after their Challenge Cup game against Enisei-STM ended.

The Irish province beat the Siberian team 31-14 but then saw their chartered flight home cancelled after the plane developed a technical problem.

Following a total of two extra nights in Krasnoyarsk, the team made it as far as Moscow earlier today before splitting into groups with some going on to London while others may be forced to stay the night in Amsterdam.

"I’m positive I’m going to have more fans in the arena than Scott will have – I’m not trying to put the lad down but he doesn’t sell tickets," said Frampton.

"I don’t know what it’s going to be like for him standing in Manchester on the ramp as a home fighter and getting booed or a worse reception than me."

Quigg responded: "Me being booed? No chance. It’s a fight that I know I’m better than him in every department."

Frampton replied: "Although Scott won’t be enjoying Christmas I will be, I’ve got a couple of kids to enjoy it with. I'll have Christmas dinner, take it nice and easy as we’re still two months away from the fight."

  10. France news conference

    Football

Some reaction to the France news conference from journalists who were there.

  11. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "We have two players who have been profoundly touched by the incidents. Antoine Griezmann was fortunate to have a feeling of relief and happiness, that his sister managed to stay alive despite being at the Bataclan. As for Lassana Diarra, his life has been touched by the deep loss of a relative who he was close to. It was good he stayed with us, I have conversed with him, as all of us have, and his place has been a source of reassurance for us. We have learnt the value of unity and solidarity. I can only repeat the message Lassana has delivered on social media."

    Didier Deschamps
  12. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "Throughout my career as a coach, football has always had an important function in everyday life. Globally, it has a strong role in society. Sport and football is a way of life in many nations. It is a strong symbol and players can give a great example and be role models on how to behave. The key, to my eye, is that we have the chance to represent those beautiful colours of blue, white and red and we will do that with pride."

  13. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "Sport in general and in particular football, which is the most popular worldwide, has always been a symbol and represents important values. After these events, these values are even more important. Those present on the field of sport tomorrow night have a duty of representing and symbolising the values of sport."

    Didier Deschamps
  14. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "I don't think it's just this group of players, but the whole of France, who will be more proud of our country than they ever were since the 13th of November. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it, but it's important tomorrow night that we are representing our country. This has never been taken lightly by this group of players and the meaning of wearing the shirt has never been forgotten in the past."

  15. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "It has been a difficult, stressful time, but we have been together and each of us, in our way, has kept up to date with the events. Each player and individual has dealt with this in their own way. The main thing is that we have kept together and shared our grief. We have tried to focus on our work. The time has come to focus on the game and approach it with the dignity and sobriety that the situation deserves."

    Didier Deschamps
  16. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "It is the very first time a stadium, football players and supporters have been a target for a terrorist attack. But sport has a way of uniting people, sport is the very representation of economic and social life; everyday life.

"I have always said that it is a huge source of pride for me to represent my country in sport and that has become even more important now. Sport represents a union of diversity and diversity coming together. Lassana Diarra's message put it well; sport has no colour, sport has no religion."

  17. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps is asked if he has "a message for the terrorists": "It's difficult to respond, we are here as a staff and management and players, it's hard to make a comment when there have been such atrocities.

"As a group we are thinking of the victims and their families and friends, but to be honest I don't want to talk too much on subjects not about the sport. We are representing our country in a particularly poignant moment.

"I am really grateful for the messages of solidarity and support all over the world, but especially from the English because we are to play the match [here]. The match will be full of emotion but we have a duty to perform and give a good account of ourselves and represent our country in the right way."

  18. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps: "The organiser of Euro 2016, Jacques Lambert, said from the outset that the Euros will take place in France. Uefa, with the French government and security forces will do whatever is needed to ensure it is a secure, safe event."

  19. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps on the team's awareness of events during Friday's game with Germany: "We were focused on the game and heard the noises. But you are so focused, you aren't aware of what it is. It was not until after, when it came to light the terrible events, what had happened.

"When it became clear that Germany wanted to remain in the stadium, independent of what we were recommended to do by the security services, I approached Joachim Low and we said we would remain with them until the right solution was arrived at. We did not get back to Clairefontaine until the late hours. It was difficult to eat or sleep."

  20. France news conference

    Football

France manager Didier Deschamps on whether there were any concerns about playing the friendly: "We are not here to be going through a decision that was taken on Saturday morning. We are here now to take to the field to represent our country, with even more pride than we normally would and make sure the blue, white and red are proudly represented by the players on the field."

  21. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on how the events of the last few days affect Euro 2016: "That is something which will be handled by people other than me, I'm confident things will be fine but this is a question for the future."

And on the English fans singing the Marseillaise: "It's important for us, for a group of players who will sing together and share that moment. It will be amazing if the England fans can sing the Marseillaise and share in this moment."

    Didier Deschamps and Hugo Lloris
  22. France news conference

  23. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "The decision to stay at Clairefontaine was taken quickly. We are human. We would like to have seen our families and those closest to us. 24. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "Tomorrow will be a great moment of solidarity. The last three days have been dramatic and I think we were in mourning together. It will be an opportunity to show character through that game and allow us to share this moment with all the English people."

  25. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "We have been touched by messages from all over the globe, particularly in England. 26. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "We’ve shared all our feelings and emotions amongst ourselves. It is a case of each individual to express themselves on the field and concentrate on the game from now on.

  27. France news conference

    Football

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "We have been together and talked together as a group, it has been a dramatic few days and very hard. We are now trying to focus our minds on doing the job on the field; to play for our country and play for the victims."

"The tie is finely balanced and we have to go for the win," said O'Neill, 63.

    Football

England captain Wayne Rooney: "First of all, when I saw the images and the footage, it was sickening. It’s a sad time and in terms of going on the pitch we can only do that in the understanding that all the security checks have been made and it's safe to do so. "We can’t deny that there is something over this game that is far greater than football and I can't imagine how this game is going to go because I've not been in this situation before. BBC Sport’s Thomas Kane, who will be attending the game in Dublin tonight: “The mood within the Republic of Ireland camp and among the supporters is one of cautious optimism. The squad acknowledge how important Robbie Brady’s away goal could be but believe that a draw was probably a fair result in Bosnia.

“Martin O’Neill believes it would be dangerous for his side to sit back and try to keep it scoreless as one goal could be enough for their opponents to progress.

“The Republic’s last match at the Aviva Stadium was their dramatic 1-0 win over Germany in the group stages last month and the Irish fans will be planning to create the same atmosphere which helped their team across the line against the world champions on that occasion.

"The return of Jonathan Walters to lead the attack would be a boost, while John O’Shea and Shane Long may also have a part to play after missing the first leg.”

  76. Minichiello has doubts about Russia ban

    Athletics

The suspension of Russian athletics from international competition is not necessarily the right decision, according to Jessica Ennis-Hill's coach Tony Minichiello.

"If you look at the suspension, like the boycotted Olympic Games of 1980 or 1984, I don’t think they achieved a great deal if I’m honest," he told BBC 5 Live.

"The testing has to be more substantial, there has to be more investment of budget into it and physically more tests done. Only that way will you stop people slipping between the cracks and getting away with it."

After chalking up 290 runs, he said: "I'm obviously disappointed not to get 300. I put too much pressure on myself. Sometimes you try too hard and don't get the results but it's chalk and cheese from a week ago."

  83. Coleman wanted Stanley game off

    Football

    Accrington Stanley

Accrington's game against Newport County should have been called off at half-time, says Stanley manager John Coleman.

Stanley twice came from behind in the match as Matt Crooks tapped in his seventh goal of the season late on in the 2-2 draw.

"It was difficult for both sides," Coleman, 53, told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"The ref should be congratulated for getting the game finished but it became a lottery and I think it should have been called off at half-time."

    Olympics

The deadly attacks on Paris will not hurt the French capital's chances of hosting the 2024 Olympic Games, according to International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

Friday's atrocities have raised security fears over future events to be held in France, including Euro 2016, but Bach said these will not be a factor when the 2024 Games host city is chosen at a vote in Peru in 2017.

"We are talking about the Olympic Games that will be held in nine years and terrorism is global, it is not just about a country or a city," Bach told French sports daily L'Equipe.
