FA chief executive Martin Glenn says he "wasn't surprised" that Tuesday's friendly against France will go ahead. He confirms the French national anthem will be displayed on the big screens at Wembley for England fans to sing.

"We will be singing it in French. I think that will be a powerful thing. A few things will be different," says Glenn.

Asked about fears over safety at Euro 2016, he adds: "I'm not a security expert but we have a clear process and are well advised on the security front. As things stand with respect to the Euro 2016 draw, we've had no change of opinion. We're advised by our security staff and will take our own decision nearer the time."

England manager Roy Hodgson: “We understand fully the French authorities had a very clear opinion on playing the game so it was very easy for us to go along with that. We will do our best to make a good game of it but can't deny the seriousness of the situation and the game is happening only four days after this terrible attack."

England captain Wayne Rooney: "First of all, on behalf of the players, we'd like to give our condolences. It's an incredibly sad time, people losing their lives. It's hard for everyone.

"We have to try and be as respectful as we can and then obviously there's a football match. It will be tough I'm sure for the French players but I'm sure it will be a chance for them to do the country proud. They'll give everything they can to make France proud."

    'Cautious optimism'published at 14:00

Republic of Ireland v Bosnia (19:45 GMT) (agg 1-1)

    Robbie KeaneImage source, Reuters

BBC Sport’s Thomas Kane, who will be attending the game in Dublin tonight: “The mood within the Republic of Ireland camp and among the supporters is one of cautious optimism. The squad acknowledge how important Robbie Brady’s away goal could be but believe that a draw was probably a fair result in Bosnia.

“Martin O’Neill believes it would be dangerous for his side to sit back and try to keep it scoreless as one goal could be enough for their opponents to progress.

“The Republic’s last match at the Aviva Stadium was their dramatic 1-0 win over Germany in the group stages last month and the Irish fans will be planning to create the same atmosphere which helped their team across the line against the world champions on that occasion.

"The return of Jonathan Walters to lead the attack would be a boost, while John O’Shea and Shane Long may also have a part to play after missing the first leg.”

The suspension of Russian athletics from international competition is not necessarily the right decision, according to Jessica Ennis-Hill's coach Tony Minichiello.

"If you look at the suspension, like the boycotted Olympic Games of 1980 or 1984, I don’t think they achieved a great deal if I’m honest," he told BBC 5 Live.

"The testing has to be more substantial, there has to be more investment of budget into it and physically more tests done. Only that way will you stop people slipping between the cracks and getting away with it."
