The 2016 Super League begins on Thursday night with last year's Grand Final winners, the Leeds Rhinos, up against Warrington Wolves in a game you can hear live on 5 Live Sports Extra from 19:30 GMT.

Can the Rhinos, now without Kevin Sinfield, Kylie Leuluai and Jamie Peacock, do it all again this year or will the likes of Warrington, Wigan and St Helens challenge them?

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino has a thing against the number 17.

The Italian had all "17" seats at his former club Cagliari torn out and replaced with 16B, while Paddy Kenny apparently departed the club because of the fact his birthday is on 17 May.

Now the programme for Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest (their 17th home match of the season) has been altered to suit his needs.

Lazio have been fined 50,000 euros (£38,250) after their match against Napoli on Wednesday was temporarily halted following racist chants.

The Rome club will also have to close three sections of the Stadio Olimpico ground for their next two Serie A home games.

The match was stopped for three mintues in the second half after some fans aimed racist chants at Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Liverpool Ladies have signed of Dutch international striker Shanice van de Sanden.

Van De Sanden, 23, arrives from FC Twente and will bolster the squad ahead of the upcoming FA Women’s Super League.

“This is a great move for me," she said. "The league is among the best in Europe and I am really excited to be competing against such top quality players."

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere admits it has been difficult to stay positive in the face of his injuries.

The 24-year-old was due back this month after being out with a broken leg but his return has been delayed until mid-March.

"Sometimes it’s been difficult to stay positive, especially after the injuries that I’ve had which have been frustrating, but as the injury goes, you get closer to full fitness and you see the light at the end of the tunnel, then you start to think about coming back and getting involved in the team," he told the club website., external

Defending Premier League champion Gary Anderson will miss the opening night of his defence in Leeds on Thursday after being diagnosed with a viral upper respiratory tract infection.

The Flying Scotsman was due to take on Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis in a repeat of last month's World final at Alexandra Palace.

The night's programme will now see Michael van Gerwen face James Wade, debutant Michael Smith will play Peter Wright before later facing a second match against Lewis, Robert Thornton plays Dave Chisnall while Phil Taylor is up against Raymond van Barneveld.

The competition runs over 16 weeks with the final at London's O2 on 19 May,.

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin confirmed that midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng will miss the game against Palace after suffering concussion in the draw against West Brom.  

New signing Alberto Paloschi could start while Leroy Fer could also be involved after completing his loan switch from Queens Park Rangers.

“I saw Leroy Fer play when he was with Norwich," said Guidolin. "I think he’s a player with quality but I need some time to get to know him. But maybe he can play a part on Saturday.”

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin has called on his players to stay focused after moving five points clear of the relegation zone thanks to seven points in three games.

"It’s an important game for us, but I’m confident that we can get the points needed to be safe this season," he said.

"We play well when we have control of the game but it is important to be aggressive when out of possession

“It will be a difficult game against Palace. They are a good team and have a player I know well in (Emmanuel) Adebayor. We worked together in the first part of the season when I was at Monaco and he’s a good striker. He’s strong in the air and has good technique - a modern forward.”
