    Leicestershire name new one-day captain

    Richard Rae
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

"An increasing number of counties are choosing to split the captaincy between first-class and one-day cricket, and while promotion from the County Championship has to be the priority, it’s an indication of the importance Leicestershire are attaching to the one-day competitions.

"In the last few months, overseas players Clint McKay and Umar Akmal have shown they’re up there with the best in the world in limited overs cricket, and Mark Pettini captained Essex to success in the Friends Provident Trophy in 2008.

"On paper Leicestershire have a competitive one-day squad this season, and playing under the new floodlights, they’re looking to add to their haul of three T20 and three one-day trophies in recent years."

2022 World Cup could be moved - Dykepublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    Football

    DykeImage source, Getty Images

FA chairman Greg Dyke has told BBC Two's Victoria Derbyshire Show that he believes the 2022 World Cup could be moved from Qatar if the federal inquiry into the awarding of the tournament shows evidence of corruption.

"If evidence comes out of the inquiry which shows that there were corrupt practices around the awarding of the 2022 World Cup, I think it could still be moved," Dyke said. "I don't see that Fifa has any choice."

But the Daily Telegraph's Paul Hayward disagrees. "There would have to be political will among Western governments [for the tournament to be moved], and I don't think there is that political will," he said.

Warne on aliens, pyramids and monkeyspublished at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    Cricket/Sci-fi

Shane Warne has been in fine philosophical form while taking part in the Australian version of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

"If we’ve evolved from monkeys, then why haven’t those ones evolved?”  he asked a fellow contestant. Then, according to The Guardian, external, it got better.

"Because, I’m saying, aliens. We started from aliens," continued Warne.

“Look at those pyramids You couldn’t do them. You couldn’t pull those ropes, huge bits of brick and make it perfectly symmetrical. Couldn’t do it. So who did it?”

Meanwhile here's a picture below of, funnily enough, Warne looking a bit like an alien.

Human rights doubts on Salman - Dykepublished at 10:08 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    Football

FA chairman Greg Dyke has told BBC Two's Victoria Derbyshire Show that he would be uneasy about favourite Sheikh Salman al-Khalifa winning the Fifa presidency.

"We at the FA haven't decided who we'll vote for yet," Dyke said. "But there is an issue about human rights, no-one denies that there were violations of human rights involving footballers [in Bahrain].

"Would it be OK for someone from Bahrain to be president? I have my doubts."

Salman has been accused of complicity in the detention and torture of footballers and other athletes in a crackdown launched by the Arab kingdom's rulers following pro-democracy protests in 2011.

Salman denies the claim against him.

Thrashed 6-0 by Liverpool, Villa boss Remi Garde said he felt "humiliated" and apologised for his the performance.

"I feel humiliated. I am sorry for the fans who came to Villa Park," said Garde. "This is a bad feeling that we did not fight enough."

"Tottenham's victory at Manchester City was a fantastic result, and the way they won the game also showed us why they have become genuine title contenders.

What I saw from Spurs was a well-organised, well-balanced performance with a healthy respect for the opposition, but also a confidence in their own ability and creativity.

It showed their spirit, fitness and belief that they were prepared to go and try and win the game in the last 10 minutes because a draw would have been a decent result at a ground where they have been beaten on their last five visits."

Messi penalty: Great skill or disrespectful?

We're talking about Lionel Messi's 'penalty', which saw him nudge the ball from the spot to Luis Suarez, who then scored. Great skill or disrespectful?

Alan Himpfen: It's not right. I'm a big Messi fan but that is just wrong. A penalty is between player and keeper one shot. If it rebounds that's different. If he wanted Suarez to get his hat-trick Suarez should have taken it.

Liam Turvey: It's an odd one. Obviously Suarez was on for a hat-trick. But Messi won't give up being penalty taker. So it's about keeping his place as no.1 but also helping a team mate.

Paul Clarke: Just awesome, and what football should be all about, great skill and ability and entertaining. Too many English teams have forgotten the meaning of the 'beautiful' game.
