ClockedToffee: Has to be Martinez. Walker and Smith were also dreadful at Everton, but neither had a squad as good as the current one.

Omari Sinclair: Lawrie Sanchez at Fulham. 07/08. Atrocious and abysmal. Followed by one of the best ever

Alan Burdon: Glenn Roeder, relegated with Di Canio, Kanoute, Carrick, Cole and Sinclair.

Mahrez to Barca? It's Gossip time...published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    Football

How much is Riyad Mahrez worth? Well, if the Sun, external is correct £15m should cover him if Barcelona make him their number one summer target. Sounds cheap to me.

Former Barca boss Pep Guardiola is also said to be doing his homework for the transfer window as he prepares to take over at Manchester City. Everton defender John Stones and Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte are reportedly on his radar.

And a new arrival at Newcastle could be on the cards with the papers predicting everyone from David Moyes, Rafael Benitez, Brendan Rodgers and Nigel Pearson as possible replacements for Steve McClaren.

Sami: Sven-Goran Eriksson for that unforgivable 8-1 loss to Boro, still wake up during the night in cold sweats cos of it

Charlie Large: Stuart Pearce at Manchester City. Record low with 10 home goals in a season, and a beanie baby as some weird good luck charm!

Although Pearce is responsible for one of my favourite Premier League moments - when he threw David James up front when City needed a goal on the final day. He left Jon Macken on the bench.

Stretcher-bearers add insult to injurypublished at 12:59

    Football

It has not been a good season for football's stretcher-bearers, and a pair of clumsy medical assistants left an injured player fuming in Israel this weekend.

    BBC

In an incident similar to a similar mishap in Greece in October, the duo dumped Maccabi Ahi Nazareth's Moamen Saleh on the turf after losing their grip on the stretcher during a game at Maccabi Herzliya.

Saleh went down holding his leg, prompting the pair of stretcher-bearers to sprint on in a bid to help. But, after one assistant had struggled to lift Saleh's weight, his colleague at the rear dumped the player on the floor and was left holding only the handles as the stretcher fell apart.

It was all too much for Saleh's captain, who took matters into his own hands by carrying his team-mate to the touchline. Saleh did, at least, end up on the winning side as the visitors triumphed 1-0 in the second-tier game.

It was also a terrific day for Laura Trott, the reigning Olympic and European champion in the six-event discipline, who improved on the second places at the last three world championships to regain the rainbow jersey.

She led the standings by 12 points after five events, finishing third in both Sunday morning's 500m time trial and the flying lap, and was supreme in the points race.

"I tried to get enough points early and I'm just so happy. This is what I did before London. This time I really wanted to win so I'm just glad I could pull it off."

It was a wonderful week for the double Olympic champion, who has now won seven world titles and whose gold in the scratch - a non-Olympic event - was Britain's first victory of the championships.

Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will no doubt have aching legs today after teaming up to win the madison as Britain claimed a fifth gold medal at the Track World Championships in London.

The duo, who won gold the last time they competed in this race in 2008, were roared on to victory by a partisan crowd, beating France into second.

Former Tour de France champion Wiggins, who is aiming to win a sixth Olympic title in Rio, described the victory as "incredible".

"You couldn't have written a better script," he said. "It's so nice to be world champion again."
