Belfast boxer Paddy Barnes says he's "over the moon" to have been named flag bearer for the Irish Olympic team in Rio.

"I hold this honour up there just as high as having won the medals in London and Beijing," said the twice Olympic light-flyweight bronze medallist.

Barnes' team-mate Katie Taylor won gold in London after being the Irish flag bearer at the opening ceremony in the British capital and the Belfast man is confident that he will achieve the same feat.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

There is a special programme at 21:00 BST tonight on BBC Radio 5 live about the making of Amir Khan.

The Briton and his trainer Virgil Hunter have been talking about his forthcoming super-fight with Mexico’s Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The fight will be live from Las Vegas on 5 live on 7 May.

Khan said: "People always talk about when Sugar Ray Leonard moved up and fought Marvin Hagler, and how he made history by beating him.

"By me going into the fight, going up a weight, fighting Canelo who’s a monster, has big speed, big power and everything, do I really need to take this fight? The only reason I’m taking it is I want to make history and I know I can beat him."

    CrestImage source, .

Want to know the story behind Team GB's new coat of arms for Rio 2016?

    1.            The floral emblem contains England's rose, Scotland's thistle, a leek for Wales and flax for Northern Ireland. Four central chains link the flowers, representing the four years of an Olympic cycle, and suggesting an athletics track

    2.            The motto IUNCTI IN UNO or 'Conjoined in One' refers to the four Team GB home nations, the separate Olympic sports and the Olympic and Paralympic teams together

    3.            Lions support the crest. They are long-featured on UK iconography and as part of Olympic and other sporting symbols. The lions hold torches and are crowned with laurel wreaths - two symbols adopted by the modern Olympic and torch ceremonies to represent the ancient games

    4.            The lion on top of the crest emerges from a crown of gold, silver and bronze 'medal' discs. The discs rest between relay batons - to signify continuity, teamwork and shared responsibility
