German second tier side RB Leipzig claim they turned down the chance to sign Jamie Vardy two years ago - because the Leicester striker was too old.
Vardy, 29, has scored 22 goals in 34 Premier League appearances to help leave the Foxes on the cusp of the title.
"The agent said to me 'Mr Rangnick, it's a crying shame that you are so radical about who you sign and only go for players who are under 24 because I've got somebody who would be just perfect for you," said RB Leipzig coach and sporting director Ralf Rangnick.
"It was Jamie Vardy."

Two-time Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington tells BBC Radio 5 live she never experienced sexism in her career.
British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton has been suspended amid an investigation into discrimination claims. Cyclist Jess Varnish previously said Sutton made sexist comments towards her and told her to "go and have a baby".
"I've never experienced anything like that....I've never seen anything...I've never heard those sort of stories. It doesn't, however, mean it doesn't go on," says Adlington.

Sport statisticians Gracenote have been crunching the numbers in their data lab and they reckon Great Britain are going to fall short of their medal targets at the Rio Olympics.
UK Sport's projections say Team GB will get 66 medals - but Gracenote reckon it will be 49. That would still make it Britain's best ever Games held outside the UK.
We will let you know who they think will win medals, and which medals, throughout the morning.
