H-AFC: Wilshere is the only mid that has a magic moment in him, same can't be said for Henderson, and Milner.

Sam Beeston: Drinkwater is good but he was made to look so much better because of Kante

OfficialTomKirk: Lallana 8 and Dier not 1-11? Unlike others we've never honoured squad no's. Worried this could be an ego or player power thing

    England's 1-11 numbers: 1 Hart 2 Walker 3 Rose 4 Milner 5 Cahill 6 Smalling 7 Sterling 8 Lallana 9 Kane 10 Rooney 11 Vardy.

Drinkwater and Townsend not on standbypublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Football

England boss Roy Hodgson would rather have named a 23-man squad from the outset, BBC Sport understands.

He went for 26 because of injury concerns.

Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere all took a full part in training this morning. They are considered fully fit.

Danny Drinkwater and Andros Townsend were called separately to Hodgson’s room to speak with him in private. They were both told of the news and took it in a respectful, professional way. They wished Hodgson and the team well.

They said goodbye to everyone before leaving the camp and will not be on standby.

Drinkwater missed out to Marcus Rashford, with Wayne Rooney also able to play in midfield. Townsend was in the squad as cover.

Former Wales striker and BBC pundit

"Chris Coleman has kept faith with many of his tried and trusted players. It's a strong squad who have shown a fantastic spirit in qualifying.

"He has given Joe Ledley every opportunity to get himself fit for the tournament. That could be a risk but has good cover in that position.

"I thought Emyr Huws would have been on the plane especially after his performance in the Ukraine."

My starting line-up for Euro 2016 opener v Slovakia on 11 June: Hennessy; Gunter, Chester, Williams (c), Davies, Taylor; Allen, King, Ramsey; Bale; Robson-Kanu

Former England Under-21 manager Peter Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: "His movement and pace, there is something more about him.

"I know he's gone straight into the team, with no under-21 experience but he looks like he can handle it."

Dave Allen: Why is Barkley going? He won't start ahead of Rooney, Alli, or Lallana. He isn't cover for Dier. So why?

Ian: Wilshere is better than Drinkwater & will get fitter by the day. Concentrate on who is in the squad rather than who isn't

Geoff Williams: Only thing more concerning than England's complete lack of Plan B is the absence of thought put into Plan A. No ball winners.

Ledley has to be fit for group game or stay homepublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Football

Wales boss Chris Coleman was asked if he would consider bringing Joe Ledley to France even if he was ruled out for all their group games.

    The answer was no.

"If we were Spain or Germany, then we could say yeah," he said.

"We've never been to a quarter-final of a tournament. The question is what stage of the group he will be available for."

'Rooney's role is in midfield'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Football

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"I think he [Wayne Rooney] can play a role upfront but his primary role now is in a defensive midfield role or at least part of a three man midfield.

I think his performance in the FA cup final against Crystal Palace… he has shown what he can do. His use of the ball was superb; he kept the ball and was never panicked and he stepped up in a huge game, obviously all the games in the European Championship are going to be huge - so you need that experience that Rooney brings to the team."

David Penn: Townsend has been poorly treated by Roy and I think it will backfire. Wilshere, Sterling & Barkley dinstinctly underwhelming.

Mike Green: Not quiet sure Drinkwater is international class. Gives the ball away too much & plays too many loose passes

Tre: So Walcott hasn't played enough to be considered but yet wilshere is in the squad?

'Townsend will feel unlucky'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Football

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"The way Andros Townsend finished the season for Newcastle, he was scoring goals, assisting goals and playing with a lot of confidence. With Raheem Sterling, that wasn't the case.

"But, we know what Sterling can do at an international level, he's proved that and Roy Hodgson has shown faith in him. He feels he's probably ahead of Townsend with what he can bring to the team.

"Townsend will feel unlucky because he's had a great finish to the season despite Newcastle getting relegated. At least he's getting looked at. While he was at Tottenham he wasn't even getting the opportunity because he wasn't playing."

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is a doubt for Sunday's pre-Euro 2016 warm-up match in Sweden, but Wales manager Chris Coleman says he "looks very good" having returned to training.

Coleman adds that Gareth Bale, who seemed to be struggling with cramp during Real Madrid's Champions League final win against rivals Atletico on Saturday, is in "better physical nick than some of our players".

Wales boss Chris Coleman says midfielder Joe Ledley "has a good chance" of being fit for their Euro 2016 opener against Slovakia.

However he could make no guarantees about the Crystal Palace player, who broke his leg earlier this month. Coleman says there is a chance he could miss the Slovakia game and return for their match against England.

He added that his midfielder is "ahead of the curve" for the injury and "looks fantastic".

England midfield cut is not a problempublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Football

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

"It's unlikely the three midfielders cut will affect the squad. People like Wayne Rooney can play in midfield. On Friday night against Australia, Roy Hodgson also looked at Marcus Rashford in a wide position. Jamie Vardy has also done it too. This gives Roy flexibility."
