    In the process of beating Sri Lanka, England captain Alastair Cook became the youngest player to score 10,000 Test runs.

    Aged 31, five months and five days, he achieved the landmark by reaching five on the fourth day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street.  

    "It's a very special moment for me," Cook said. "You forget about all the hard times you have as a cricketer."

    It was another good day at the office for England's cricket side yesterday. It may have taken them slightly longer than they thought, but they wrapped up another Test victory - and subsequently sealed the series - against Sri Lanka.

    The club are now looking for their 10th boss since Jose Mourinho left for Chelsea 12 years ago.

    They finished third in the league, while Peseiro's final game in charge was the Portuguese Cup final, which they lost on penalties to Braga.

    Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, 34, has signed a new contract, according to former Red Devils player Paddy Crerand. 

    Crerand told MUTV: "Something that happened today that nobody has mentioned, and I'm delighted that he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick. He's signed a contract for another year."

    Now granted, this is the Crerand who said the story BBC Sport broke about Louis van Gaal being sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho was “rubbish”...

    Jose Mourinho visited Manchester United's training ground for the first time yesterday.

    He was shown round by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and met Bobby Charlton, plus other members of the club's staff.

    He did not meet Ryan Giggs though as the United assistant, whose future is uncertain, is on holiday.
