Rafael Nadal will miss this summer's Wimbledon because of a wrist injury.

The Spaniard had to withdraw from the French Open after sustaining the injury in a second-round match.

A statement said Nadal's left wrist will continue to be 'immobilised' for two weeks.

"After that the player will start an anti inflammatory rehabilitation and physiotherapy based treatment once the cast is removed," the statement added.

Hampshire all-rounder Gareth Berg has called young fast bowler Hamza Ali "100% committed as a bowler and player". 

Berg captained the seamer, who died aged 20, in a number of games this season.

"I haven't seen many trialists like him at his age that knew exactly what he wanted to do with the ball," Berg told BBC Radio Solent. 

"He delivered it 99% of the time in the games I captained. He was always listening to you and soaked it up like a sponge when you gave him any feedback.

"He was a talented cricketer and I was really hoping good things would come to him."

Wales are often described as a one-man team. When you consider Gareth Bale scored seven and assisted two of their 11 goals in qualifying for Euro 2016, you can see why there would be such claims.

But the 26-year-old offered a firm rebuttal on Thursday , saying the brotherly bond in the Wales squad means they are not overly-reliant on their talismanic forward.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce on striker Jermain Defoe extending his contract until 2019: "Jermain is one of the greatest goal-scorers in the history of the Premier League and is a player that every manager would want to have in their team."

Allardyce tells the club's website:, external "He proved that beyond doubt last season by scoring 15 league goals, he is in fantastic physical condition and we are very pleased that we have been able to extend his stay with us.”

England are currently 182-5, with Jonny Bairstow moving past 50, after captain Alastair Cook earlier made 85.

But, as you can see in this clip, Bairstow is living dangerously and was nearly run out.

Thousands of Northern Ireland fans are on their way to France for Euro 2016.

But how are they getting there?

Lee Brooks and his five friends have set off in a revamped second-hand caravan which includes a tribute to Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg, who plays for Wigan Athletic.

"I am a chef, that's why I ripped out the cooker," he says. "I don't want to cook on holiday, I feel I'm already doing enough with the driving."

Ian Durrant is to end his long association with Rangers as part of a coaching reshuffle.

He spent last season in charge of the Under-20 development squad, but will not return for the start of pre-season training. Durrant spent 14 years as a player at Rangers, before returning as a coach in 2005.

No manager but Everton announce midfielder Darron Gibson has extended his contract until 2018.

"But performance director Sir David Tanner said its his "confident intention" to get them back in their women's double sculls boat for Rio despite their poor form this season.  "Cryptically, he also said there were a "few steps to go" but added that the decision was only made on the same day as the team announcement, so the fact they were not included was more down to a timing issue after they tested to try and make the women's eight crew on Monday."
