    Two more European heavyweights have been in action as Real Madrid faced Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup, this time in Ohio.

    Two goals from Thomas Meunier helped PSG to a 3-1 victory over the European champions who were playing their first game since the Champions League final in May.

    Marcelo scored for Madrid who were without a number of stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.

    Fresh from claiming her first WTA title last weekend, British number one Johanna Konta is into the third round of the Rogers Cup after beating American qualifier Vania King in Montreal.

    Novak Djokovic also featured in his first match since Wimbledon and got back to winnings ways with a 7-5 7-6 (7-3) win over Luxembourg's Gilles Muller in the men's event in Toronto.

    Sale Sharks' former All Blacks second-row Bryn Evans has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

    The New Zealander, 31, moved to Sale last season from French side Biarritz after three seasons in the Premiership with London Irish.

    He has played Super Rugby for Blues and Hurricanes and won two caps for the All Blacks in 2009, both against France.

    "Bryn was outstanding during his first season and was a model of consistency for us, just missing one game," said Sale's director of rugby Steve Diamond.

    In 1987, Laura Davies became Britain's first winner of the US Women's Open, beating Joanne Carner and Ayoko Okamoto in a play-off at Plainfield, New Jersey. 

    Twenty-nine years on, Laura is competing in the British Open this week at the Woburn Golf Club.

    At the moment, she is one over through 10 after an inconsistent spell between the fourth and eighth holes that saw her go bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey.

    Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said it last night and his words were likely to have been reinforced over lunch in Shenzhen today - striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be sold to Manchester City.

    Officials from both clubs were set to meet up ahead of their game, and Dortmund were due to tell City they have no interest in selling the Gabon striker, whose contract runs until 2020.

    City boss Pep Guardiola has already signed one player from Dortmund this summer; Ilker Gundogan, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mats Hummels have also left the Bundesliga outfit for Manchester United and Bayern Munich respectively.

    After the chaos that surrounded the Manchester derby that never was in Beijing on Monday, I am pleased to report there is no danger to today's fixture between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

    It has been dry since City arrived on Tuesday afternoon, the pitch at the Shenzhen Universiade Stadium is fine and the temperature is a very pleasant 32 degrees.

    For a trip that appeared to have a lot of football in a short space of time, it seems quite a while since Dortmund hammered Manchester United 4-1 in Shanghai last Friday.

    Franck Ribery, M’Baye Niang and David Alaba were all among the scorers in the pre-season friendly.
