    Strangely West Brom are rolling as big as anyone as we reach the pointy end of the transfer window.

    The Baggies have bid £21m for Sporting Lisbon's highly-rated defensive midfielder William Carvalho - according to the Express and Star., external

    He is their preferred target, but Tony Pulis has also triggered the £15m release clause of Malaga anchorman Ignacio Camacho as a back-up plan.

    West Brom signed Tottenham winger Nacer Chadli yesterday for £13m.

    Sunderland winger Jeremain Lens has completed a switch to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

    Lens, 28, joins up with manager Dick Advocaat for a fourth time after spells at AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven and Sunderland.

    The Dutchman joined Sunderland from Dynamo Kiev for £8m just over 12 months ago, but made only 14 Premier League starts for the club.

    Lens scored three league goals for the Black Cats.

    Italian striker Federico Macheda, who has had his Cardiff contract terminated my mutual agreement, had been at the Bluebirds for just over two years.

    The former Manchester United man, 25, scored eight times in 2014-15 but did not find the net once last season in eight appearances for Cardiff and three during a loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

    Cardiff head coach Paul Trollope had said Macheda was not part of his plans.

    The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he scored nine times in 24 league starts and has 16 Portugal caps.

    The 28-year-old spent last season in Turin after making only four starts for Chelsea in the wake of a £23m switch from Fiorentina.

    He scored four goals from 16 starts for Juve.

    It's just over two hours until European captain Darren Clarke announces his three wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup.

    The men in the frame seem to be Scotland's Russell Knox, Belgium's Thomas Pieters, England's Lee Westwood, Germany's Martin Kaymer, Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen and Ireland's Shane Lowry,  

    Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell appears to have accepted he will not get one of his countryman's picks.

    With five rookies among the nine who have automatically qualified, captain Clarke is expected to want Westwood in his team to take on the Americans at Hazeltine, Minnesota, from 30 September-2 October.
