"He has to play tomorrow and then Stoke. Then he will have plenty of time to rest.

"It is different for the other players who go off with the national teams."

Arsenal will be without midfielder Francis Coquelin for the visit of Basel tonight.

The Frenchman sustained the injury during Saturday's 3-0 win over Chelsea with Granit Xhaka, whose brother Taulant plays for the Swiss champions, a possibility to replace him.

Striker Olivier Giroud will also miss the match after being sent-off in their opening Champions League game this season, a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsene Wenger could stick with his policy of rotating his goalkeepers for the match with David Ospina poised to return.

Who should become England's next manager and why?

Andy Wiles: Pochettino for England manager. He's a brilliant manager and has already worked with half of the current England team.

Andy White: Chris Coleman would be a good choice. Not so sure it will happen though!

Dave Dearden: Someone young and enthusiastic please. Enough of these stuffy, old fashioned, middle aged men. Please not Bruce.

Jose Mourinho gave his opinions on Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata during the press conference who impressed on Saturday against Leicester.

When at Chelsea, Mourinho sold the Spaniard to United but the Portuguese defended that move and said the two clubs differing styles is a reason for Mata's improvement.

"The football I want to play and the profile at Man Utd and what I want to do in this club is completely different situation," Mourinho said.

"In my project at Chelsea he was a good player. In my project at Man Utd he is a very good player.

"There are big differences. At Man Utd I have no players to play transitional football.

"We are trying to play in a different way. It is very adapted to his qualities. He has found a natural habitat for his football."

Having been told Daley Blind would be making an appearance, it was something of a surprise to see Jesse Lingard stood quietly in a corner next to the press conference table as Jose Mourinho left it.

Lingard spoke a little bit about Wayne Rooney, who he is convinced will bounce back from his present problems and has years left in him.

He also addressed his own form, including the woeful performance against Manchester City earlier this month when he was substituted at half-time.

"Consistency is the key for me this season."

Dennis: Why is Southgate in the running? What's he achieved in football management? Nothing. Desperate times indeed if he's the favourite.

"I didn’t expect this at all, it was a joke."
