"All the European clubs rub their hands, when they are short of money they ring up one of the Premier League clubs to fund them for the next two years.

"It was inevitable what we have seen in this transfer window, as more money comes in, more money goes out."

Stoke have signed Wilfried Bony and Bruno Martins Indi on deadline day.

    Tottenham Hotspur

Alan Fisher, Tottenham On My Mind: "This is the best Spurs side since the early 80s and I’m deeply proud of their style, creativity and commitment, and as the youngest team in the Premier League the best is still to come.

"Without reinforcements their potential could remain unfulfilled just as last season when their physical and mental strength ebbed away in the last five games.

"Only Wanyama is proven in the Premier League. A few injuries, or players out of form as Kane and Eriksen are at the moment, and the squad is under strain.

"If Pochettino really wanted Sissoko, pay the money. It’s not about deadline day – they’ve had the summer to see this coming, and I simply can’t the reasoning behind it."

Alan Fisher, Tottenham On My Mind: "When you’re on top, press home the advantage. It’s been part of battle plans for generals and football managers alike but not apparently for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

"The protracted saga of N’Koudou’s purchase ended today to inject much-needed pace into the attack. Otherwise we’ve signed a third-choice keeper on loan.

"We’re in the Champions League yet Levy once more fails to back his manager at a crucial moment, and if anyone deserves 100% support it’s Pochettino."
