Medals for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be made from old smartphones and other electronic products in order to give the Games an "environmentally friendly hue", organisers have said.

It is unclear whether the use of recycled metals would be cost efficient, though officials are keen to rein in soaring costs.

Experts have said that the total Games budget could hit an eye-watering $30bn (£24,103,645,800) - four times the initial estimate and almost triple that of the 2012 London Olympics.

But how about this for a record?

Carlisle United's Nicky Adams has played 32 league games in 2016, including at Northampton Town last season, and is yet to be on the losing side.

Carlisle travel to Newport on Saturday. Will their lucky charm be in the starting line-up?

Yesterday, Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was charged with using abusive language about an opponent's race, ethnicity or nationality.

I understand the Wolves player allegedly abused in racial terms by Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey is Wolves' Moroccan midfielder Romain Saiss.

His grasp of English is limited, but the matter was brought to the referee's attention by a Wolves team-mate straight after the game.

A fine innings from Joe Root comes to an end in unusual fashion in the first Test against India.

The decision was referred to the third umpire however as the officials were unsure whether the India bowler was in control of the ball before throwing it in the air to celebrate.

The wicket stands however and England are 281-4 after 81 overs. Moeen Ali is 88 not out.
