More from Sunderland manager David Moyes who confirmed the club have received a bid from Crystal Palace for full-back Patrick van Aanholt.

It comes after Sunderland also rejected a bid from West Ham for striker Jermain Defoe, earlier in the window.

"We've had bids for quite a lot of our players," Moyes said.

"Maybe people think we're easy pickings but we're not.

"I want to build and keep all of our good players.

"Sometimes you do need to sell to rebuild but at this period we want to keep our players and add if we can do."

The 22-year-old was expected to be out for at least six weeks following an injury picked up on Boxing Day but Moyes says he could return in three or four weeks.

John Stones will return to Everton for the first time on Sunday, since he joined Manchester City for £47.5m in the summer.

"John Stones is strong enough if he gets booed by Everton fans at Goodison, " said Guardiola. "I hope he gets respect from the Everton fans.

"I think all former players come back they want to show how good they are. They don’t have regrets, complaints, completely opposite."

Guardiola was also asked yet again if he wanted to sign Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

"I'm not going to answer that again," he replied.

    Koeman's 'brazen step'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

Everton v Man City (Sun, 13:30 GMT)

    James Mountford
    Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

Ronald Koeman wasn't afraid to declare some of this current squad aren't in his plans, just as Morgan Schneiderlin's won't be the only addition this January window.

It appears Koeman is far from happy with the squad he inherited from Roberto Martinez, but it's a brazen step to publicly say some players don't have a future.

Everton fans will be encouraged to hear him talk of more balance required in the squad. And perhaps last week's hugely disappointing FA Cup defeat has only stiffened Koeman's resolve to mould together an Everton side who can truly compete for the top six or better.

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has confirmed Manchester United winger Memphis Depay is his "number one priority" in the January transfer window.

United have rejected a bid for the player from the French club who they signed for £31m from PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

"This is my number one priority, I'm a fan of this player, he has an interesting profile for us," Genesio said.

Depay had played just eight times for United this season while Everton are also thought to be keen on the Dutchman.

Always leave it on silentpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

Man Utd v Liverpool (Sun, 16:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Aon Training Complex

There are some moments as a journalist when you just cringe.

Midway through today's Jose Mourinho briefing at Carrington, one of the phones among the collection of devices in front of the Manchester United manager recording the press conference rang.

    This is not uncommon.

What is less usual is for the manager to pick it up and answer.

But, without saying who it was, that is exactly what Mourinho did - before transferring the phone to the rather embarrassed reporter it belonged to.

The Brazilian arrived at the Etihad this month from Palmeiras, five months after City signed him for £27m in August.

But Pep Guardiola says the 19-year-old can't stay because he has not been registered in time to make his City debut.

In other team news, Fernando will be back in training tomorrow, while Kevin De Bruyne’s been sick, but has recovered.

'Man Utd fans have to be like Liverpool supporters'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

Man Utd v Liverpool (Sun, 16:00 GMT)

Mourinho talks about the atmosphere at Old Trafford again after being critical of the lack of noise during the EFL Cup semi-final victory over Hull on Tuesday.

"Now is just a question of having a little bit extra in a match which for them means a little bit more," he says.

"It’s for them that the match means something more. They have to make us feel that feeling we felt that at Anfield – we felt clearly for the Liverpool fans it was more than a match.

"Now we play at home we have a huge percentage of our fans compared with Liverpool fans."

Anfield stalemate 'a good game'published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

Man Utd v Liverpool (Sun, 16:00 GMT)

On the progress Manchester United have made recently in winning nine in a row, Mourinho adds: "Results are better. I have changed a lot of things. I had less time before. Now I have a little bit more."

Asked if he is expecting a better game than the 0-0 borefest at Anfield in October, he says: "Some people say 0-0 not good game because no goals. Doesn't mean I always agree with that. I thought it was a good game."

Hmmmm... we think Jose might be in a minority of one with that assessment...
