Pep Guardiola says club captain Vincent Kompany could return from injury against Everton.

The Belgium defender has not played since 19 November with a knee injury.

"Kompany trained - he’s back," said Guardiola. "Hopefully he can play and be able to be used for the second part of the season."

Asked how hard it will be for the 30-year-old to get back to his level, Guardiola replied: "I don’t know, a good question.

"We can’t deny how good Vincent is but his mentality is strong – he knows exactly what he has to do. Don’t put too much pressure on Vincent.

"We don’t have time in this business but he has to feel his manager and team-mates will give him time to come back."

Mourinho 'not sure Klopp as calm as I am'published at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

Man Utd v Liverpool (Sun, 16:00 GMT)

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says he is looking forward to Sunday's home game against Liverpool.

"No-one is nervous. Everybody wants the game. I am sure Jurgen is the same," he says.

"It's three points, plus the emotional side of it. Fans and players here for a long time understand the feeling better than I do. I am here for a few months.

"It's a good rivalry. I always feel it is very good for the football clubs. But no more than three points."

Asked if both he and Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp are angry coaches, he says: "I just think we like to win. Everyone has his own personality, style and coaching and leading. Probably we have some similarities and other characteristics that make us different.

"He wants to play the game as much as I want, I am not sure if he is so calm as I am. It is one more big match."

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Marcos Rojo should be fit for Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool, Jose Mourinho said.

Ibrahimovic missed Tuesday's EFL Cup semi-final with Hull due to illness while Rojo came off during United's FA Cup tie against Reading.

Asked whether the pair will be fit, Mourinho said: "I think so.

"I cannot confirm because there is two days left but they are closer to being ready than not ready."

Marco Silva says new signings Oumar Niasse and Evandro have given his Hull City squad a lift in their first training session this morning.

However, he won't be drawn on their availability for tomorrow's home game with Bournemouth.

Curtis Davies, Michael Dawson and Jake Livermore have trained today and could return to the squad tomorrow.

Silva isn't being drawn on reports that West Ham have tabled a second bid for Robert Snodgrass or of interest from Newcastle United in Sam Clucas.

Liverpool have failed to score in their last two games - against Southampton and Plymouth - something Jurgen Klopp has been asked about in his pre-match news conference.

"Our passing needs to be quicker, earlier all that stuff," Klopp said.

"That is the situation. In one game we didn't create a lot of chances.

"We know what we have to do to create more chances but ahead of United I don't think it is too much about chances and dominance. We have to think about different things."

Ronald Koeman is asked about former England manager Graham Taylor after his death yesterday at 72.

Dutchman Koeman famously escaped a red card for pulling down England's David Platt in a 1993 World Cup qualifier in Rotterdam, prompting a furious Taylor to berate the fourth official.

Koeman went on to score the Netherlands' opener as a 2-0 defeat effectively ended England's chances of qualifying for the 1994 World Cup.

On Taylor, Koeman said: "It is sad news for everyone - 72 is too young.

"I didn't know him very well but I know his story. What happened in Rotterdam...he was unlucky."

    Very diplomatic, Ronald...

Nine wins in a row for the first time in eight years, virtually every player fit and a home game against Liverpool to look forward to.

Life couldn’t be much better for Jose Mourinho just now.

But Jurgen Klopp has proved a tricky opponent for the Manchester United boss.

In six meetings, Mourinho’s single success came in a Champions League semi-final that ended in a two-legged defeat anyway.

With United trailing their old rivals by four places and five points, it will be interesting to hear Mourinho’s assessment of the situation when he speaks to the media at 13:30 GMT.

Pep Guardiola will have plenty of topics to cover when he faces the press.

The club are fourth in the league following the 2-1 win over Burnley last time out.

But they were charged by the Football Association this week, for failing to ensure anti-doping officials knew where players were for drugs testing.

It is also now being reported that 19-year-old Brazilian winger Gabriel Jesus, who signed from Palmeiras in the summer for £27m, is not eligible to play this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp has taken his seat at his news conference ahead of Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday.

On United, Klopp said: "They are better. (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan is a good example. More confident, a different side and more used to each other now.

"When I woke up this morning I thought 'Ah yes, only two days'. Give me 11 players and we will be competitive."

Transfers will no doubt dominate today's media conference with Ronald Koeman.

The January window looks to be Everton's biggest yet and also underlines Koeman's desire to overhaul the squad.

A player of the calibrate of Morgan Schneiderlin is the sort Evertonians will believe can help take them towards genuinely competing in the Premier League's top six

And it looks like that's the ambition that Koeman has bought into as well; which sets them up nicely for Sunday's home game against Manchester City.
