    Bad news for football agents looking to send their clients to Chinese clubs on crazy contracts.

    Chinese Super League clubs will only be allowed to play three non-Chinese players per game in their next season - which begins in March. A rule change has reduced the number of foreigners allowed in a move which could slow down the wave of big-money signings from Europe.

    A statement said, external the new measures will address "irrational investments." Previously the rule was "4+1" - four foreigners of any nationality plus one Asian in a matchday squad.

    Three-time Olympian Francesca Halsall has announced her retirement from swimming.

    The 26-year-old won over 30 medals at world, European and Commonwealth level, including 50m backstroke gold at the 2016 European Championships in London.

    Halsall finished fourth in the 50m freestyle final at last year's Rio Olympics - just 0.06 seconds off gold.  

    She was part of the British quartet that won 4x100m medley relay gold at the 2015 World Championships.

    In an entertaining retirement statement,, external Halsall said: "I am very much looking forward to the next chapter of my life and the normality of eating and drinking what I want, the only time someone watches me pee is when I leave the door open by accident and the dog comes in."

    Justin Thomas isn't feeling depressed on Blue Monday with this cheque to be banked

    Justin Thomas set a new record for the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history as he won the Hawaii Open.

    The American's final-day 65 saw him finish 27 under par to set the record at 253 strokes, while England's Justin Rose was second on 20 under, a shot ahead of Jordan Spieth.

    The 23-year-old world number eight said: "It's been an unbelievable week. Unforgettable."

    Thomas started the event by becoming the youngest man to register a sub-60 round on the PGA Tour with an opening 59, and he followed that up by setting the lowest 36-hole total before equalling the record for the 54-hole mark.

    Southampton defender Jose Fonte has been linked with Liverpool since handing in his transfer request at St Mary's Stadium.

    But it doesn't look like anything will come of those rumours.

    Sources at the Merseyside club are adamant Jurgen Klopp is not interested in the 33-year-old Saints skipper - and that is not going to change during the current transfer window.

    Defending women's champion Angelique Kerber has moved into the second round of this year's Australian Open with a 6-2 5-7 6-2 victory over Lesia Tsurenko.

    Kerber says: "I have to say I'm really happy to be back here. Everything started here for me when I won my first Grand Slam here. Thank you all for your support.

    "I won the match and that's what counts. The first round is always tough. I'm so happy to be in the second round."

    Former football coach Barry Bennell has pleaded not guilty to eight charges of sexual assault against a boy under 14. 

    The former youth coach at Crewe Alexandra denied the eight counts when he appeared at Chester Crown Court.

    The charges all relate to allegations of abuse between 1981 and 1986.

    We've been talking about Blue Monday - the day that is supposed to be the most depressing in the year.

    Well, it is not a day for Bangladesh cricket fans to enjoy as their team have claimed an unwanted world record with an improbable loss to New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington.

    The visitors scored 595 in the first innings but were bowled out cheaply in the second before New Zealand chased down a 217-run target to win. It meant Bangladesh broke a 123-year record for the highest total made by a losing side in a Test.

    An unbeaten century from captain Kane Williamson and 60 from Ross Taylor led New Zealand to a seven-wicket victory.
