The 38-year-old will be based in his native Germany as the Premier League club's European recruitment assistant.
"After my great spell at Swansea ended, I have decided to retire as a player," Tremmel told the club website.
"But I always had in mind to do something in football when I finished playing."

Er, it's all over. Last man James Anderson was snared first ball by Duanne Olivier as England were bowled out for 133 and walloped by 340 runs.
Presumably Olivier is now on a hat-trick when the third Test takes place at The Oval, starting on 27 July.
The four-match series is now level at 1-1.

"I don't feel extra pressure from it. It will be a different experience, for sure.

Just 29 seconds cover the top four as Team Sky's Froome leads by 18 seconds from Italian national champion Fabio Aru, with Frenchman Romain Bardet a further five seconds back in third and former Sky rider Rigoberto Uran of Colombia looking ominous in fourth.
"I really do feel as if I'm coming up and the last few days have been evidence of that," said the three-time Tour winner. "I had a bad day in the Pyrenees about a week ago but hopefully I'm on track to be at my best in the last week."
Today is a rest day in the Tour.

Local lad Tommy Fleetwood is the first player to face the media at Royal Birkdale today to preview the Open Championship, which begins on Thursday.
Fleetwood has won twice this year and finished fourth at the US Open last month.

Bardet received passionate support on Sunday when the 15th stage passed through his local Auvergne region.
However, British race leader Froome suffered some jeers and insults.
"I heard that Froome was abused at times," said Bardet. "I'm really sorry, he's a champion who should be respected, who I respect as a rival and who doesn't deserve that treatment."

O'Meara, who won the second major of his career when the Open was staged at Birkdale in 1998, will tee off at 6:35 BST alongside fellow American Ryan Moore and England's Chris Wood.
Wood finished fifth at Birkdale in 2008 and won the silver medal as leading amateur, before missing out on the play-off between Tom Watson and Stewart Cink by a single shot the following year at Turnberry.
