    Gerhard Tremmel has joined Swansea City's staff as a scout after the goalkeeper's playing contract was not renewed in the summer.

    The 38-year-old will be based in his native Germany as the Premier League club's European recruitment assistant.

    "After my great spell at Swansea ended, I have decided to retire as a player," Tremmel told the club website.

    "But I always had in mind to do something in football when I finished playing."

    Chris Froome expects to be on his best form in the final week of the Tour de France as he fights to hold on to the yellow jersey in the closest battle this race has ever seen.

    Just 29 seconds cover the top four as Team Sky's Froome leads by 18 seconds from Italian national champion Fabio Aru, with Frenchman Romain Bardet a further five seconds back in third and former Sky rider Rigoberto Uran of Colombia looking ominous in fourth.

    "I really do feel as if I'm coming up and the last few days have been evidence of that," said the three-time Tour winner. "I had a bad day in the Pyrenees about a week ago but hopefully I'm on track to be at my best in the last week."

    Today is a rest day in the Tour.

    Richard Whitehead, at the age of 40, goes in the T42 100m final (20:00 BST), looking to upgrade his silver from Rio.

    New world record holder Sophie Kamlish is in the T44 100' final (20:20 BST) and Isaac Towers is a medal hope in the T34 400m (21:47 BST).

    French rider Romain Bardet wants his country's fans to show Tour de France rival Chris Froome more respect.

    Bardet received passionate support on Sunday when the 15th stage passed through his local Auvergne region.

    However, British race leader Froome suffered some jeers and insults.

    "I heard that Froome was abused at times," said Bardet. "I'm really sorry, he's a champion who should be respected, who I respect as a rival and who doesn't deserve that treatment."

    Former champion Mark O'Meara will hit the first shot of the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on Thursday.

    O'Meara, who won the second major of his career when the Open was staged at Birkdale in 1998, will tee off at 6:35 BST alongside fellow American Ryan Moore and England's Chris Wood.

    Wood finished fifth at Birkdale in 2008 and won the silver medal as leading amateur, before missing out on the play-off between Tom Watson and Stewart Cink by a single shot the following year at Turnberry.
