    IAAF Council member Frankie Fredericks has been provisionally suspended from athletics pending an investigation into a potential ethics violation, the sport's governing body has said., external

    The Namibian is being investigated by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), over payments he allegedly received from Papa Massata Diack, the son of ex-IAAF president Lamine Diack.

    In March, French paper Le Monde claimed, external former sprinter Fredericks received a payment days before voting on the 2016 Olympics host city.

    The four-time Olympic silver medallist denies the allegations.

    Fredericks stepped down from two key administrative roles in March following the accusations

    He quit as head of the evaluation commission for the 2024 Games and left a taskforce helping Russia return to international competition.

    As head of the IOC evaluation commission, Fredericks was to lead an inspection visit to 2024 candidate cities Los Angeles and Paris.

    Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson says the recurrence of a back problem prompted him to retire from football.

    The 37-year-old spent the last 18 months of his career at Burnley, making three Premier League starts last season, having previously played for Leeds, Tottenham and Blackburn.

    He told the Burnley FC website:, external “Unfortunately, my back problem returned towards the end of last season and has prevented me being ready for the start of the new season. Taking everything into consideration I've decided to announce my retirement.

    “I have been very fortunate to play the game I love for so many years and make it my career.

    “I intend to take a short time out to spend time with my family and explore the different options available to me."

    Britain's David Henson, who won bronze in the T42 200m on Saturday, came up short in his 100m heat just now.

    The former soldier for the Royal Engineers lost both of his legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2011.

    And his blade caused him trouble today.

    "After a false start, we started again my leg came lose around 20 metres, The heat and the sweat is a real problem for amputees. I have an awful lot of scar tissue on my right leg so I have to wear two liners to even out that scar tissue and it can get more sweaty. It's entirely my error, there are ways you can correct it," he tells BBC Radio 5 live.

    "It's been a good competition so far. I wanted to take away a medal and get into the final in the 100m. My performance wasn't a true reflection of the hard work I've put in."

    Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has announced his retirement, external at the age of 37.

    Robinson made over 500 senior appearances and featured three time for Burnley in the Premier League last season.

    He won 41 caps for England between 2003 and 2007 and played in all five games at the 2006 World Cup.

    Robinson started his career at Leeds before moving on to Tottenham, Blackburn and Burnley.

    There is speculation about Ronaldo's future after last month's revelation that the 32-year-old was determined to leave Real and Spain.
