"But we've got two years until the Olympics. We've got to hold our heads high and move forward from this."

I think Jason [Kenny] on the final lap will be disappointed with that time, but having said that the Dutch were fantastic on the final lap.

Jason's not quite at full fitness yet thought.

Germany, in the last race, also went faster than the British trio, but the times aren't really too important yet so no need to worry

They got off the mark with the fastest start of the entire series so if there are any issues with the British team, it's certainly not with man one.

But it was a blistering finish from the Dutch.

    Cycling: Men's team sprint qualifying

Job done for the British trio. Ryan Owens goes off on the first lap, then it is Jack Carlin's turn, before Jason Kenny brings it home. The time is 43.454 seconds, although they are not as fast as the other team on the track as the Dutch, the world champions, go fastest.

Their team of Jeffrey Hoogland, Harrie Lavreysen and Roy van den Berg look the team to beat.

Nevertheless, that is GB straight into the next phase, which will take place from 16:07 BST.

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

You can feel the atmosphere building outside already. To have all of these different sports brought together, it's a unique feeling.

I think all the athletes will relish this opportunity and it's also great experience for younger athletes who may not have been to a multi-sports games yet.

  14. What are the European Championships?published at 14:41 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

The first European Championships will be a 'mini-Olympics' for the continent featuring some of the biggest names from seven sports.

Athletics, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, rowing, triathlon and a new team golf event make up the 11-day competition that started on 2 August. The athletics will take place in Berlin and the other sports will be hosted in Scotland, with the golf at Gleneagles.

More than 4,500 athletes are expected to compete for 188 gold medals.

Cyclists Laura Kenny and Jason Kenny, swimmer Adam Peaty, athlete Dina Asher-Smith, gymnast Max Whitlock, triathlete Alistair Brownlee and golfer Laura Davies are among the British athletes looking to bring home gold in their respective sports.

The idea is a simple one - instead of European Championships for different sports being held at separate venues and with their own schedules, they will be clustered together in a host city in a bid to create a similar vibe to an Olympic Games.

They're going to struggle with that, I'm afraid. That's a little bit of a disappointment.

With a wobble out of the start, they'll be disappointed with that.

They're already in a difficult position now [even if they do qualify] because the seeding pits the fastest against the slowest as well.

Ah, that didn't go to plan. The British duo of Katy Marchant and Lauren Bate-Lowe are in danger of not making it through to the next phase as they come up with a time of 33.884 seconds, which is only seventh quickest and only the fastest eight of the 10 teams go through.

These two have a big responsibility here. Just 20 seconds to get this right.
