I like what I've seen from Zharnel Hughes so far this year - he's run really well all year long.

If he can handle the pressure, he should be champion.

    Women's 100m final

Two-time European champion Dina Asher-Smith speaking to BBC: "I am so happy. To run a 10.8 in the championships is a big deal. I knew I had it in me but anything can happen as you can see with the upsets this morning. I am so happy right now!

"I did everyething right. I was so happy to nail it in the final because i know there are so many talented people around me but you have to ignore that.

"I wanted the world leading time. It is equal so I'm kind of like, eh, it was equal but I will try again later in the season.

"I am hoping to do the same thing that I did today in Tokyo!"

She also tells the interviewer she loves her dress and dances away, beaming.

The confidence Dina Asher-Smith has shown in her 200m running has really helped her 100m - because nobody got near her today.

She knew this was her race today, she was the favourite and she took it.

    Women's 100m final

    Michael Johnson

That was incredibly impressive because of the time. 10.85 was incredible, because Dina Asher-Smith didn't even need to run that time.

It was impressive from start to finish. We know she can start fantastically because she's small, but she really reminded me of Shelly-Anne Fraser-Price here, there's no wasted energy, shes smooth and quick and fast and efficient in her technique. And her foot-speed by the way - incredible.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce-esque. Her feet were like pistons out of the blocks. It was sensational. I didn't think I'd see that time. That has just elevated her into another stratosphere.

Her coach has developed this world class athlete. He has worked with this young talent and it is fantastic.

Just for a bit of perspective - as well as matching the fastest time this year, 10.85 seconds is also the same time that Tori Bowie ran in London to win world 100m gold last summer.

It would have earned her bronze at Rio 2016.

If you go back to previous championships, Dina Asher-Smith has always had problems going into the competitions with injuries and time spent studying.

This time she's had flawless preparations, and if we can get that again next year, she could go under that 10.8 time.

The rest of the field queue up to embrace Dina Asher-Smith and offer their congratulations, paying homage to the champion and the new continental powerhouse.

Germany's Gina Luckenkemper was second in 10.98, Dafne Schippers was third in 10.99.

But they were looking at Asher-Smith's heels from 40m.

    A bona-fide superstar right here.

    Women's 100m final (20:30 BST)

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

I think Dina Asher-Smith's objective has to be consistent and continue her approach. Her coach and her may have noticed a few things from the semi-final which they can change, but the main thing is that it'll be more competitive than the semi.

If she can beat Dafne Schippers that will be a huge thing for her, because obviously the Jamaican athletes or American ones aren't here, but to beat Schippers puts down a marker.

She needs to maintain her composure and keep doing what she's doing, because it will be a faster race and it will be tougher.

Dina Asher-Smith is much more mature than her age would suggest. Because of that you don't see much fluff - he just takes care of business on the track - and I think that focus always helps athletes reach their potential.

Mentally, there isn't a lot of energy spent on anything but what happens on the track. She is only focused on her own race, and running the best race she can.

Even without your red-white-and-blue tinted specs, Britain's Dina Asher-Smith - the fastest women in Europe this season, the fastest in the semi-finals this afternoon - is the clear favourite.

He will have some formidable guns pointed at her though with multiple major championships medalist Dafne Schippers and Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji among the threats.
