    Colin Jackson
Two-time world 110m hurdles champion on BBC TV

The most important thing for Thomas Barr is that he committed himself much earlier. He tends to leave it too late and look at his reward - a season best and, of course, a bronze medal.

    Women's pole vault final

After passing the first two heights, Holly Bradshaw has nailed her opening height in the final.

She went clear at her first attempt at 4.55 and goes into the joint-lead with five other athletes.

A long way to go, but that's a promising start from the 26-year-old.

    Daley Thompson
Two-time Olympic decathlon champion on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I don't think Johnson-Thompson has come here to win the gold medal. She has come here to win the silver medal.

If everything goes ok for everyone you have a good idea of where everyone is going to finish.

KJT has come here with the best will in the world to get the silver but the other person (Thiam) is better than her.

We are talking like Katarina has a great chance, and she might win, but it's Thiam's to lose.

Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson cannot improve on her decent 13.09 on her final throw.

Nafi Thiam's personal best of 15.35m puts her top of the standings,

That might be the last of her that the rest of the field see.

Johnson-Thompson is usually a little quicker over the 200m - the next event - though.

'It means so much to me'published at 19:04 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Women's 400m semi-final

Laviai Nielsen speaking to BBC Sport after qualifying for the 400m final: "I can't believe it. I got lane eight but I just had to follow my race plan - the girl just inside me panicked a bit and I know that my finish is my strongest bit.

"My coach and I know my greatest asset is how I relax. You have to have self-belief and that's the thing I think has made me improve so much - believing I can be here.

"Hopefully I get an inside lane so I know what's going on but I just need to recover now as I might be one of the only girls in the final that has had to race in a heat and a semi-final.

"It means so much to me, it's an honour to even get here - I've just been taking it step by step. It's just disbelief sometimes."

Poland's Iga Baumgart-Witan and Lithuania's Agne Serksniene take the two automatic slots, with Britain's Anyika Onuora edged out and down into third.

Unfortunately for Onuora, the third and fourth-place athletes in the first semi-final are quicker, so her hopes of a fastest loser spot are gone.
