    800m semi-finals

Elliot Giles came though a qualifying round with more bumps and shoves than a strike-day London bus.

A bronze medallist two years ago in Amsterdam, he is in good form having come five hundredths of a second off his personal best at the Anniversary Games a few weeks back.

French world champion Pierre Ambroise-Bosse and reigning European champion Adam Kszczot are also involved in this one though. It'll be tight for one of the three automatic spot with Spain's Alvaro de Arriba also a threat.

    men's 110m hurdles

David King speaking to BBC Sport after failing to make the 110m hurdles final:

"It's hard to be disappointed with it but I am. I felt like I held my own in the race which is really positive.

"It was a little messy with the guy next to me, hitting arms a bit. But I felt really good there and to post my fastest time of the year at the Euros is great.

"I just need to keep progressing. Something I've managed to do over the years is I I've got faster each season but this year has been a bit of a blip. It's coming together now though.

"I'm disappointed not to make the final but I'm encouraged with the run."

Apart from Kramer, that's an opportunity missed from the two British men.

It wasn't the best executed race from either of the British guys there.

    800m semi-finals

With three through automatically, Guy Learmonth occupies the final fastest loser spot.

A big shock as the fastest man in the continent this year - Saul Ordonez - comes fourth. He may still make the final.

Andreas Kramer, Andreas Bube and the fast-finishing Mateusz Borkowski are definitely in.

Daniel Rowden was down in sixth.

The fastest man in Europe this year - Spain's Saul Ordonez - goes in this opening semi-final.

Based on 2018 form Great Britain's Guy Learmonth and Daniel Rowden are the next in line to fill the two other automatic spots for Saturday's final.

Things rarely work out that simply in the 800m though.

Learmonth will be looking to get one over the rest of the British team as much as the rest of Europe.

The Scot was skipped over for funding by UK Athletics this season and has not held back on his criticism of the Loughborough set-up.

“I definitely think people put the icing on the cake before they’ve baked the cake,” he told The Herald of some of his domestic rivals., external

It is the nonchalance that does it for you.

Mariya Lasitskene makes hurling your whole body over a two-metre high bar look as everyday as loading the family shop into the boot.

The Russian, who won the world title in 2015 and 2017, is the big favourite to take gold.

However Bulgaria's Olympic silver medallst Mirela Demireva ended Lasitskene’s 45-competition winning run earlier this summer at the Rabat Diamond League. Could she do so again?

Great Britain's Morgan Lake won silver at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year - her first senior medal - but will have to go some to replicate that here.
