  17. Only a temporary reprieve for Chelsea over Hudson-Odoi?published at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

So the battle between Chelsea and Bayern Munich over Callum Hudson-Odoi seems to have halted for now after the London club refused his transfer request and repeated their stance that they want the 18-year old to stay.

But it’s only a temporary reprieve.

The teenager is yet to sign a new contract, and he is still seeking reassurances about playing time, which is the main issue for him. So we could see round two in the summer, when he will enter the last year of his current deal and his value will likely drop from the £35m that Bayern were willing to offer this window.

However, by resisting the urge to cash in, Chelsea have demonstrated how much they want Hudson-Odoi to remain at Stamford Bridge. And if he adds to the five starts he’s made this season, particularly in the Premier League where he is yet to make his full debut, then perhaps the youngster will feel he has a future at the club.
