Spurs are in a position where we need to sell to buy more than one player as far as I'm aware due to squad registration.. the time for shipping people out is the summer when a lot more clubs are buying, players in the squad as under 21's will need to be registered in future, so it's not as straight forward as the papers would have you believe..

    Ian in London

All this talk from Poch about the new stadium. It will be like having a brand new super car but can't afford to run it! Once Spurs start losing the crowds will dwindle. Bet Spurs won't even be the first team to win at New White Hart Lane.

Well, would you believe it (re. entry at 10:14 GMT) it appears the Denis Suarez move to Arsenal is BACK ON!!!

After appearing to have completely stalled earlier today, reports from Spain now suggest Suarez is set to sign a contract extension at Barca to protect his market value.

Then the 25-year-old midfielder is expected to agree a six-month loan move to the Emirates, with the Gunners offered the opportunity to buy him once it expires.

    Thoughts, Arsenal fans?

  7. Rarely a dull moment with Sarripublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Bournemouth v Chelsea (Wed, 19:45 GMT)

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 live football reporter

Well, Mauricio Sarri pressers are rarely dull. It didn’t take him long to confirm that Callum Hudson-Odoi is staying at Chelsea for now. Sarri maintains that these decisions are out of his hands but he’s been told by the club that he won’t be sold in this window and probably not in the next one in July.

This will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans, who would love to see a home-grown talent succeed at Stamford Bridge. Whether that person is Hudson-Odoi remains to be seen. Sarri was fulsome in his praise of the player, he believes the 18-year-old is the future of Chelsea and the future of English football. No pressure there then!

Sarri also revealed that Gonzalo Higuain was surprised by how “aggressive” English football is after his debut on Sunday. He’ll need to get used to that, and his manager also said he needs to hit the ground running because if it takes him a month to adjust it will be a month too late. Higuain should make his league debut tomorrow at Bournemouth.

Nic O'Connell: What is going on with Arsenal transfer window to me it sounds like Emery is not getting the boards backing and they aren’t letting Emery to do his own thing with the club it’s getting to that stage where we will loose key players like Lacazette and Aubameyang.

GG: Poch / Levy get slated for not signing anyone, but if there's nobody available to improve the squad they are correct. Gregor Raziak type panic buy? No thanks.

Grzegorz Rasiak...I'd forgotten all about him, GG. No goals in nine games for Spurs after joining from Derby on deadline day in August 2005, although he did go on to enjoy a prolific spell with Southampton...in the Championship!

Arsenal have clear defensive issues at the moment and we are currently not looking to spend money. Sweeney for Barnet was class last night and I think Arsenal should sign him.

Wonder why Spurs don't move for Giroud? He's got class, plays Spurs style, will be able to cover for Kane but happy to come off the bench too. Short and long term solution!

  12. 'I expect City to win every game' - Klopppublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Liverpool v Leicester (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about Tottenham and Manchester City, who are Liverpool's closest title rivals.

“For me it makes no difference [if City win]," he said. "If we win the game, we’re not interested in other results. I expect City to win every game.

On Mauricio Pochettino's assertion that top four is more important than winning trophies: “We need money for improving a football team.

"I know people probably didn’t like what he said but the best competition to win is the Premier League. Other competitions don’t generate the same money."

  13. 'It's because we can't sign anyone, not because we don’t want to'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Tottenham v Watford (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

And finally from a passionate news conference with Mauricio Pochettino, here's the Spurs boss on their lack of signings.

"For different circumstance the club has decided not to sign anyone," he said. "I understand everything, I understand the opinion about me.

"The most important thing is that we decide as a club. It is about the decision and working with the resources.

"My view must be different to the chief scout or chairman. Not because I don’t want to sign, it is because we can’t find the right player.

"I don’t know if we have the money. Maybe it is not the financial side. If we don’t sign it is because we can’t, not because we don’t want to."

  14. Poch - 'No-one believes in us'published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Tottenham v Watford (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino added: "I love my job, I love the challenge.

"We are the victim of our own success. No-one believes in us, no-one believes it will bring success to the club.

"The club played once in the Champions League [before he took charge]. We are now three in a row. That was a dream.

"Of course, the process it is not easy to go in a straight line. When you lose, everything starts to be negative. How thin was the line when we lost on penalties? We might have been talking about the character of the team [instead]."

  15. 'Spurs can be at same level as Real'published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Tottenham v Watford (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino was also asked if Spurs could one day be as good as Real Madrid.

"In the future? Of course," he replied. "Tomorrow I believe we will win. Tottenham will have everything, one day, to be at the same level.

"It is the normal process when you want to be one of the biggest teams, who are there because of their history. Tottenham will have the history and one day can be a contender for every single title."

    Mauricio PochettinoImage source, AFP

Asked if that view was shard by chairman Daniel Levy, Mauricio Pochettino added: "If you are at Real Madrid you only think about winning trophies. Tottenham was a completely different challenge, to build the philosophy is tough.

"The bigger picture is that we will have one of the best stadiums in the world. If you want to be one of the best teams in the world, you need the best training ground. We have one of them.

"When all this is ready, there won’t be an excuse. For different reasons, we are still missing something. We are trying with all our capacity. We are so conscious that we are giving our best to achieve what all the people want.

"But we have been competing with all the circumstances in the last four years. To explain the big picture is so important because people get confused."

  18. 'The moment when we win will arrive'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

Tottenham v Watford (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Boss Mauricio Pochettino explained why Spurs can progress once they move into their new stadium.

"We have played four semi-finals and one final," he said. "We were there. We were close. We have consistently played in the Champions League and been in the top four.

"How do we get to the last level? Improving the way we operate, the facilities, the squad - make a list, you can tick nearly all the boxes.

"Patience is difficult in football. We see something and we want it straight away. It is about working hard and developing the project.

"It is easy to destroy, it is so difficult to build. It has taken 18 years to build the new stadium. White Hart Lane was destroyed in one day.

"We are working hard to try and deliver. We need to have faith. The moment when we win will arrive. At the moment we are trying. It is tough to win. We are focused on many things."

Tottenham did not sign anyone during the last transfer window. They haven't signed anyone during this one either - and it doesn't look like they will.

"You know how we work. Anything can happen in the last minute. Players have the opportunity to leave the club."

Manchester United are in talks with a Chinese club over the sale of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The name of the club concerned has not been revealed but the Chinese transfer window does not close until 28 February.

United are refusing to say whether a fee has been agreed for Fellaini, who was the first major signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, joining for £27m on deadline day in August 2013.

The 31-year-old has never won over the United fans, even though he was regularly selected by David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

He allowed his contract to run out at the end of last season but subsequently signed a new two-year deal that is not due to expire until 2020.
