  3. Packers win fifth in a rowpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

Green Bay Packers 24-14 Chicago Bears

Green Bay made it 10 wins out of the last 11 in their famous old rivalry with the Chicago Bears as the Packers survived a bruising encounter to move to 5-1 for the season thanks to more Aaron Rodgers magic.

The Bears swarmed all over Rodgers in the first half but the three-time league MVP managed to pick apart Chicago’s defence to throw two TD passes and run in the crucial score himself to restore their 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Rodgers celebrated in style and was heard shouting “I still own you” to the Bears fans!

Chicago’s rookie QB Justin Fields showed flashes of his skills but could in no way keep up with Rodgers and the Packers – who also managed to run the ball on the Bears in an all-round offensive display that showed they’re still one of the teams to beat in the NFC.

Jacksonville Jaguars beat Miami Dolphins 23-20 in thriller

Well, if you're going to snap you 20-game losing streak you may as well do it over in London and with the last kick of the game!

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars had a tough time against the Miami Dolphins but they managed to produce a late fightback to end the second-longest losing run in NFL history.

Lawrence set-up the win with a superbly quick last throw of the game to leave just a second on the clock for kicker Matthew Wright, in just his third game for the team, to boot the game winner from 53 yards.

The 25-year-old kicker was a software engineer just a few months ago! Now he's a Jacksonville hero.

  5. Sloppy Chiefs grind out Washington winpublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

Kansas City Chiefs 31-13 Washington Football Team

The Kansas City Chiefs got back to winning ways but it was nowhere near as comfortable as the scoreline suggests as Patrick Mahomes and company were still plagued by turnover troubles.

Mahomes threw two interceptions and Mecole Hardman coughed up a fumble as the Chiefs trailed at half time as their defence also failed again by handing Washington an easy touchdown with a blown coverage.

The Chiefs dug themselves out of trouble though, with Darrel Williams running in two scores and Mahomes throwing two TDs and 397 yards as they recovered to 3-3 for the season.

Those turnovers, dropped catches and poor defence will still be a huge worry though if the Chiefs are to challenge for a return to the Super Bowl for the third straight year.

  6. Ravens run Chargers raggedpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

Los Angeles Chargers 6-34 Baltimore Ravens

It was supposed to be the game of the day between two 4-1 teams who could be Super Bowl contenders, but it turned into a one-sided rout as the Baltimore Ravens ran over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Ravens used their power running game to rush for 187 yards and three TDs with Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman and Le'Veon Bell all finding pay dirt.

Baltimore's defence, meanwhile, limited Justin Herbert to just 195 yards and one touchdown while the Chargers could only muster 26 yards on the ground.

The manner of the defeat will be a shock to the Chargers as much as anyone, and they'll have to go back and find a way to get tougher as if they do make the play-offs then they may see the Ravens again.

Baltimore look every bit a Super Bowl contender.

  7. Big wins for Rams & Bengals - Vikings win in OTpublished at 21:57 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    Sunday's round-up

The Los Angeles Rams powered on to 5-1 for the season with an emphatic 38-11 victory at the New York Giants where they impressed in all facets of the game.

Matthew Stafford threw four TDs, two of them to Cooper Kupp, the team ran for 131 yards and one Darrel Henderson TD and the defence forced four turnovers in what turned out to be a mauling of Daniel Jones and the Giants.

The Cincinnati Bengals bounced back from last week's heartbreaker by battering the winless Detroit Lions 34-11 with Joe Burrow sparkling with three TD passes to move the team to 4-2.

They only won four games all last season but with Burrow and rookie wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase they have what looks like one of the best attacking tandems in the league.

Chase didn't score but had 97 yards on four catches and even threw in a superb block to help Joe Mixon score a 40-yard catch and run.

The Minnesota Vikings were involved in yet another nailbiter as they beat the Carolina Panthers 34-28 in overtime

Greg Joseph missed the chance to win it for the Vikings with a last second kick, but Kirk Cousins made no mistake in overtime by hitting KJ Osborn for a 27-yard walk-off touchdown on their first drive of the extra period.

The Houston Texans slipped to 1-5 for the season after a heavy 31-3 defeat by the Indianapolis Colts, who had a monster game from running back Jonathan Taylor with 145 yards rushing and two scores.

A reminder of the overtime rules:

    • No more than one 10-minute period will follow a three-minute intermission. Each team must possess, or have the opportunity to possess, the ball. The exception: if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown on the opening possession.
    • Sudden death play — where the game ends on any score (safety, field goal or touchdown) — continues until a winner is determined.
    • Each team has two timeouts.
