  2. Best late game - Cardinals sink Cowboys to end losing runpublished at 01:43 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 25-22 Dallas Cowboys

It was all getting a bit sticky for Arizona after three straight defeats but they got a welcome victory from their tough trip to fellow NFC play-off team Dallas.

Perhaps it was no great surprise given Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had won all seven of his games at AT&T Stadium - the home of the Cowboys - stretching back through college and high school.

Arizona were never behind and although Dallas hit back from 22-7 down in the fourth quarter to get to within three, Murray then sealed the game with some nifty runs to ice the game.

It means that Arizona join Dallas on 11-5 for the season with both behind Green Bay in the race for top spot in the NFC Conference. The Cardinals could still claim the NFC West title if they beat the Seahawks next week and the Rams lose to the 49ers.

  3. Late games round-up - Chargers set up final-day showdownpublished at 01:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

The Los Angeles Chargers beat the Denver Broncos 34-13 to set up what looks like a winner-takes-all clash with AFC West rivals the Las Vegas Raiders next week in the final game of the regular season.

Second-year quarterback Justin Herbert was electric again with 237 yards passing and two touchdowns, which set a new team record for TD throws in a single season (35).

It leaves the Chargers, Raiders and Indianapolis Colts all on 9-7 and chasing just two play-off places. With Indy playing the lowly Jags next week, it very much looks like whoever wins the showdown in Vegas will go to the post-season.

The San Francisco 49ers kept their NFC play-off hopes alive as rookie QB Trey Lance rallied them from a tough start to beat the Houston Texans 23-7.

At 9-7 the Niners currently sit in the sixth out of seven play-off spots, but next week's game against the Rams - the NFC's second seed - is a hugely tough finish.

The New Orleans Saints are also in there fighting for a play-off spot after another smothering defensive display in an 18-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

The Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions have no play-off hopes but still played out an entertaining game, with the hosts Seattle running out 51-29 winners.

NFL: Ja'Marr Chase scores three touchdowns as Bengals upset Chiefs

Evan McPherson kicked a 20-yard game-winning field goal as time expired as the Cincinnati Bengals clinched the AFC North title by beating the Kansas City Chiefs 34-31.

Joe Burrow passed for 446 yards and four touchdowns while Ja'Marr Chase had 11 catches for 266 yards and three scores - the most receiving yards ever by a rookie in an NFL game.

The Chiefs (11-5) led 28-17 at half-time but dropped to second in the chase for the top AFC play-off seed behind the Tennessee Titans.

Devin Singletary ran in two second-half touchdowns as the Buffalo Bills secured a play-off place with a 29-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bills (10-6) remain top of the AFC East on a tiebreaker with the New England Patriots, who they beat last week to take top spot. They will capture their second straight division title by beating the New York Jets next week.

Mac Jones passed for 227 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots bounced back from back-to-back losses to also clinch a play-off berth.

The six-time Super Bowl winners beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 50-10 and Jones' second TD pass of the game was his 20th of the season, breaking a tie with Jim Plunkett (1971) for most by a rookie quarterback in franchise history.

Daniel Carlson converted a 33-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Las Vegas Raiders a 23-20 win at the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts tied the score with 1:56 left, but Las Vegas (9-7) made it three straight wins to keep their AFC play-off hopes alive.

The NFL's rushing leader Jonathan Taylor had 108 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries for the Colts (9-7), who slipped into one of the AFC's two wild-card spots.

D'onta Foreman rushed 26 times for 132 yards and one touchdown as the Tennessee Titans clinched the AFC South title with a 34-3 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Jalen Hurts led a second-half rally as the Philadelphia Eagles won 20-16 at Washington to keep hold of a wild-card spot in the NFC Conference.

The Los Angeles Rams moved a step closer to the NFC West title as they fought back to win 20-19 at the Baltimore Ravens.

Cooper Kupp had six catches for a touchdown and 95 yards to set the Rams' franchise record for receiving yards in a season (1,829) while Odell Beckham Jr. touchdown put the Rams ahead with 57 seconds left.

Tom Brady connected with Cyril Grayson for the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds left to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a 28-24 win at the New York Jets.

The defending champions were already assured of a return to the play-offs but their late fightback was overshadowed by Antonio Brown's bizarre exit from the game.

With the Bucs trailing 24-10 midway through the third quarter, the controversial wide receiver removed his shoulder pads and jersey, ran across the end zone and headed to the team's locker room.

"He is no longer a Buc," said coach Bruce Arians after the game. "That's the end of the story. Let's talk about the guys who went out there and won the game."

Elsewhere on Sunday, David Montgomery scored two rushing touchdowns as the Chicago Bears cruised to a 29-3 win over the New York Giants.

  7. FT - Cardinals win!published at 00:39 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 25-22 Dallas Cowboys

Kyler Murray comes up big to ice the game with a couple of nimble runs and he continues his unbeaten streak at AT&T Stadium in what's a big win for his team.

It keeps them in the hunt for the NFC West title next week as they face the Seahawks while the Rams play the 49ers.

Dallas are no more than likely out of the running for top spot in the NFC and have a few questions to answer.

  8. Browns, Dolphins and Broncos eliminatedpublished at 00:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

Courtesy of the win by the Chargers, Cleveland, Miami and Denver have all been eliminated from play-off contention heading into the final week of the season.

It's especially tough on the Dolphins, who managed to string together seven straight wins to get into contention, and also tough on Cleveland, who have had some tough injuries this season.

The Browns were well fancied to put a good run together this season too after their efforts last year.

  9. touchdown

Touchdown - Cowboyspublished at 00:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 25-22 Dallas Cowboys

Here come the Cowboys again as Dak Prescott finds Amari Cooper for the touchdown, and then Cedric Wilson for the two-point conversion to slice that lead down to just a field goal. And there's plenty left in this game with over four minutes on the clock.

Arizona had led 22-7 at the start of the fourth quarter but now they're under severe pressure, let's see what Kyler Murray does from here.

  10. FT - Saints stay alivepublished at 00:20 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

Carolina Panthers 10-18 New Orleans Saints

New Orleans seal the game in typical fashion with some tough defence eventually leading to an interception.

CJ Gardner-Johnson sacks Sam Darnold, then Cam Jordan sacks Sam Darnold, before CJ Gardner-Johnson intercepts Sam Darnold. Not a great series for Sam Darnold but a good one for the Saints defence.

They head to the final week still in with a shout of making the play-offs.

Field goal - Cardinalspublished at 00:12 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 25-14 Dallas Cowboys

Matt Prater nails his 38-yard field goal hitting it right down the centre of the posts and that importantly makes this a two-score game now with the lead at 11 points.

They're crucial points off the Prescott fumble.

  12. Huge play by the Cardspublished at 00:10 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 22-14 Dallas Cowboys

What a play this is by Arizona's Isaiah Simmons, who comes flying in at Dak Prescott and punches the ball out of the QB's hands with a diving effort - and the Cardinals recover the fumble through Dennis Gardeck.

That's the first turnover of the game and could be huge.

  13. touchdown

Touchdown - Seahawkspublished at 00:08 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Detroit Lions 22-45 Seattle Seahawks

It's a hat-trick of touchdowns for DK Metcalf as Seattle increase their lead again.

You don't get many three-TD days in the NFL so Metcalf is rightly enjoying it.

Houston Texans 7-23 San Francisco 49ers

Congratulations to Trey Lance on a nice victory that keeps the San Francisco 49ers on track to make the play-offs. It wasn't as easy as it perhaps should've been against Houston but they get the job done.

They remain in the wildcard spots in the NFC.

Taysom Hill flips a short pass to Alvin Kamara, who takes it 12 yards into the end zone for what incredibly is the first touchdown the Saints have scored in 11 quarters!

The point after hits the post, though, so the lead is just eight.

ICYMI... wide receiver Antonio Brown has left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after dramatically walking out of their game at the New York Jets.

The 33-year-old stripped off his jersey and pads, gestured to the crowd and walked back to the locker room midway through the third quarter.

Brown was apparently angered by a conversation with one of the team staff, while on the sidelines.

"He is no longer a Buc," said head coach Bruce Arians after the game. "That is the end of the story, Let's talk about the guys who went out there and won the game."
