  1. touchdown

Touchdown - Lionspublished at 22:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Detroit Lions 7-17 Seattle Seahawks

The Lions might just have a player on their hands with receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who leads them in receiving and rushing today and scores their opening touchdown on a 26-yard run.

That's his fourth TD in five games.

  2. touchdown

Touchdown - Cardinalspublished at 22:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 10-0 Dallas Cowboys

Kyler Murray has never lost at this stadium, having won here in high school and college, and he's showing again that he loves the home of the Dallas Cowboys by throwing the opening TD of the game to Antoine Wesley - his second of the season.

It's at the end of a long 91-yard drive taking up eight minutes and 25 seconds of clock, including that fake punt of course, and finishes with some classic Murray as he races out towards the end zone but with defenders on him slips an easy pass over the top to Wesley.

  3. touchdown

Touchdown - Seahawkspublished at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Detroit Lions 0-17 Seattle Seahawks

It's all Seahawks in Seattle as Rashaad Penny runs in his second TD of the game, this time from six yards, to extend the lead for the hosts.

  4. He caught it!published at 22:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 3-0 Dallas Cowboys

Take a bow Jonathan Ward - the back-up running back for the Cardinals who caught this incredible ball - on a fake punt no less!

We keep watching it on loop but still can't figure out how he does this...

  5. Disaster for Denverpublished at 22:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Denver Broncos 0-10 Los Angeles Chargers

We talk all the time about special teams making a big difference. It's nice if you can make huge plays but just doing your job correctly will do as it can involve huge swings in momentum and field position.

Example A right here as the Chargers have to punt from their own end zone, but the ball's then fumbled around halfway and instead of a short field in their favour the Chargers get about a 50-yard play.

  6. Murray on the movepublished at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 3-0 Dallas Cowboys

Kyler Murray really is a tough QB to try and snag once he gets into the open field, and he converts a third down with a pass to Chase Edmonds after racing out of the pocket into space.

Plenty of good defence in this game so far despite having two great QBs on the field.

  7. touchdown

Touchdown - Texanspublished at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Houston Texans 7-0 San Francisco 49ers

Houston have largely been rubbish all season, but they're playing tough in the spoiler role down the stretch with wins over the Titans and Chargers in recent weeks, in among a load of defeats obviously.

And they've taken the lead here with Brandin Cooks catching his sixth touchdown pass of the season from a rocket of a pass from Davis Mills.

  8. field goal

Field goalspublished at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

The Seahawks and Chargers both make it 10-point leads at home with successful field goals.

    • Detroit Lions 0-10 Seattle Seahawks (Jason Myers 51 yards)
    • Denver Broncos 0-10 Los Angeles Chargers (Dustin Hopkins 19 yards)
  9. touchdown

Touchdown - Pantherspublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Carolina Panthers 10-3 New Orleans Saints

Chuba Hubbard scampers away for a 21 yard rushing score as the Panthers bag the first touchdown of the game in New Orleans.

  11. field goal

Field goal - Saintspublished at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Carolina Panthers 3-3 New Orleans Saints

Saints level in New Orleans as Brett Maher boots a 41-yarder following a 52-yard drive led by Taysom Hill with a large dose of Alvin Kamara catching passes out of the backfield.

  12. touchdown

Touchdown - Seahawkspublished at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Detroit Lions 0-7 Seattle Seahawks

We'll still bring you the scores from Seattle even though both the Seahawls and Lions are out of play-off contention - and if you believe what you hear this could be the last time head coach Peter Carroll and/or QB Russell Wilson will be on this team.

Anyway, Rashaad Penny has rumbled in the opening score with a 15 yard touchdown run.

Well, we did say it might get tasty John. Glad you were with us.

  14. ouch!

Denver out of Lockpublished at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Denver Broncos 0-7 Los Angeles Chargers

Denver have seen their starting QB Drew Lock taken off to the locker room to have his injured shoulder checked out, and he's now being listed as questionable to return.

Brett Rypien is now in at QB.

  15. field goal

Field goal - Penalties cost Cardinalspublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Arizona Cardinals 3-0 Dallas Cowboys

Arizona have been getting flagged left, right and centre over the last few weeks, and this time it's a disaster as they were camped out on the goal line before being moved back.

And in the end, Kyler Murray has to throw the ball away on third down when under pressure so they have to settle for a Matt Prater chip shot.

Dealing in field goals isn't ideal though against this Dallas offence.

  16. field goal

Field goal - Pantherspublished at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Carolina Panthers 3-0 New Orleans Saints

Carolina have turned to Sam Darnold at quarterback today in place of Cam Newton - and he's responded by going 5/5 for 51 yards and setting up a Lirim Hajrullahu field goal from 32 yards.

Taysom Hill is returning at QB for New Orleans tonight after missing their last game with Covid.

  17. Bengals hoping to end play-off droughtpublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Kansas City Chiefs 31-34 Cincinnati Bengals

You saw the reaction from the Bengals fans at Paul Brown Stadium when they beat the Chiefs earlier, and this is why - they're a fanbase that's pretty starved of success.

Cincinnati last won the AFC North title in 2015 - that's the last time they made it to the play-offs, and the last time they actually won in the post-season was way back in 1990.

That's currently the longest active drought without a play-off win in the NFL...

  18. Latest - the play-off picturepublished at 21:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

So, before those early games, just six of the 14 play-off spots had been taken, with the Kansas City Chiefs the only team in the AFC Conference to have clinched their spot.

Well four more teams have now punched their ticket to the post-season, all in the AFC:

    • Tennessee Titans
    • Cincinnati Bengals
    • Buffalo Bills
    • New England Patriots
  19. touchdown

Touchdown - Chargerspublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Denver Broncos 0-7 Los Angeles Chargers

Well that was an incredible early window! You want more? Of course you do, and the later games are already under way with Austin Ekeler putting the Chargers into an early lead against Denver.

This is a crucial game for both of these teams in the AFC wildcard race.

  20. Arians says Brown to leave Bucspublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022
    Breaking

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28-24 New York Jets

ICYMI... Antonio Brown wrote another chapter in his controversial career earlier.

With Tampa Bay trailing, their star wide receiver stripped off his pads and jogged back down the tunnel topless.

The seven-time Pro Bowler played a part in the Bucs' Super Bowl win last year but coach Bruce Arians has just said that Tampa Bay will become Brown's latest former club.
