So there you have it. 14 teams entered the NFL play-offs and two remain.

It was possibly the most dramatic set of play-off matches we've ever had. The two number one seeds out at their first hurdle, almost every game decided in the final minutes. What a ride it has been!

In the end the two fourth-seeded teams survived.

What a game Super Bowl 56 should be.

On one side you've got the veteran big-money free agent quarterback Matthew Stafford.

On the other, ice-cool Joe Burrow, the first quarterback to reach the Super Bowl as a No 1 draft pick in his first two years.

There's the best receiver in the league this year – Cooper Kupp – against the rookie of the year favourite Ja’Marr Chase.

And two superb defences going head-to-head.

It should be a blast.

Says it all about the way the 49ers finished the game.

Sean McVay looked a happy man on the stage in the middle of the pitch. The decision to throw all his eggs in one basket with the mega trade with the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford last year has certainly paid off and Rams coach McVay called his quarter-back a "leader".

"The players pulled it off, I’m so grateful for the players," added McVay. "But we’ve got one more."

Rams quarterback Matt Stafford is beaming after reaching his first Super Bowl at the end of his first season with the Rams.

"That was an unbelievable performance by our team," he says. "It didn't start the way we wanted it to, the guys battled. We said in the locker room, there's no way we're not going to win this damn game. Our guys put our mind to it, came out here and did it. I'm so proud of this group."

There was some fantastic defensive play tonight but this one was inevitably defined by the two quarterbacks.

They both threw an interception and two touchdowns, but Stafford produced when it mattered the most.

Garoppolo had the ball in his hands twice at the death and barely completed a pass under that pressure situation.

Mark your calendars, it should be a cracker.

Super Bowl 56 will kick off at 23:30 GMT on Sunday 13 February.

It's at the Rams' SoFi Stadium but, judging by the number of 49ers fans in the ground tonight, home advantage may not exist.

It's all over. The LA Rams beat their big rivals and will be back in this stadium to face the Bengals in two weeks' time.

What was Garoppolo doing? Under pressure from Aaron Donald, on third and 12, the 49ers quarterback flings the ball under-arm while falling backwards.

Not a good idea.

Travin Howard intercepts it and the Rams are now kneeling down.

The Rams are forced to settle for a field goal. Matt Gay chips it in and the 49ers get the ball back with 1min 46secs left.

The 49ers defence turns up when needed and Stafford is sacked for a seven-yard loss. It's third down.

The Rams are deep inside 49ers territory and the game is in their hands.

That is a pivotal play. Another third down and Stafford targets Mr Reliable Cooper Kupp once more.

Yards after the catch take the ball to the 49ers 12-yard line.

That is the sixth third-down conversion for Kupp.

It's that man Kendall Blanton again as Stafford looks for his stand-in tight end on a short third down.

Blanton is in for the injured Tyler Higbee, who is out with a knee injury.

The Rams start on their own 39-yard line after a shortish 49ers punt.

The scores are square as Matt Gay converts from 40 yards - he missed from 54 earlier.

The Rams drive stalled following that big catch from Kupp.

The Rams move inside the 25 as Stafford find Kupp again on a third and 10. Kupp uses his legs to wiggle his way to a first down.
