Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TVYou can't count out Fred Kerley because at one point he has been the fastest in the world this year.
Plus, Kerley has had one more rest day than Van Niekerk which may have done him good.

Four-time Olympic gold medallistWayde van Niekerk is one of the special ones, when you've won the Olympics, World Champs and broken the world record you're in an elite group.
His 100m speed (He has run under 10 seconds) makes him the best 400m runner we've ever seen.
Fred Kerley is only in lane two but lane draws don't matter, it's an advantage for lane two because you can see everybody. Wayde broke the world record from lane 8.

BBC athletics expert on Radio 5 liveIt's a very different Wayde van Niekerk this year. When he went to Rio the weather was more conducive to fast sprinting and there was no pressure. Here it's all about winning medals for him.

BBC athletics commentatorWayde van Niekerk sensationally broke Michael Johnson's 17-year-old 400m world record at the Rio Olympics last year, but there are a lot of things going on at an Olympics.
These championships will be a chance for him to really establish himself as a global star.
The 25-year-old is considered heir apparent to Usain Bolt as the next global figurehead for the sport. He is a quieter guy than Bolt - most are - but is warming to his time in the spotlight.
The intriguing thing for athletics fans is Van Niekerk only just missed going sub-43 seconds in Rio - he ran 43.03 - and we know London is a great stadium that can produce fast times.
Could he?

Wayde van Niekerk is attempting a 200m-400m double. The South African set a world record of 43.03 seconds in winning Rio Olympic gold, my own personal highlight of the Games. Didn't see that record going.
How fast can he go tonight?
