The second field event of the night is about to start.

Renaud Lavillenie won the Olympic title at London 2012 but none of his four World Championship medals are gold.

The Frenchman has been out-of-sorts this season - failing to record a Diamond League victory - but will hope to find form when it matters most.

Bianca Williams started well, but over the final 30m she tied up a bit. Dafne Schippers - 200m is her favourite event. She jogged in the final few metres.

That was easy. Dafne Schippers powers into a big lead, has time to look over both shoulders at the apex of the bend and still jogs to a time of 22.63. Not shabby at all.

Bianca Williams is fourth so will have to wait and see. Her time is 23.30.

British athlete Bianca Williams is in the first heat. The first three in each race go through automatically, plus the three fastest losers.

We are being told that it's cold inside the stadium tonight. Which doesn't help sprinting.

As you'd expect, there are plenty of big names to keep an eye out for in this one, which is the first event out on the track.

Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands is reigning world champion and Rio Olympic silver medallist. She won 100m bronze on Sunday and goes in the first heat at 19:30 BST.

American Deajah Stevens is third fastest in the world this year of those competing in the 200m in London, while Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas, is the Olympic 400m champion attempting to double with the 200m.

It's unfortunate and bad timing. This situation seems confusing. They say it's on medical grounds, but the athlete says he's not been tested. He's already warmed-up and said he felt good. He said he hasn't been tested and says he's fit to run.

Botswana's Isaac Makwala has been ruled out of Tuesday's 400m final despite insisting he was fit after an outbreak of the norovirus bug.

Aged just 21, Sara Kolak came from relative obscurity to win Olympic gold in the Rio rain last summer although she failed to qualify automatically for the final tonight (her best throw of 63.24m was shy of automatic qualification distance – 63.50m).

The 12 athletes in the final look very close on paper when you compare season's bests. Could be close.

Let's hope we see the Kyle Langford we saw in the semi-final rather than the heat because he got it so right in that semi.

He ran out of his skin to make this final.

    Men's 800m final

    Mike Costello
BBC Radio 5 live athletics commentator

It's hard to know. The favourite for gold is Botswana's Nijel Amos. We saw in the semi-finals that 800m races can be messy. They've been won in times that have been in the compass of Kyle Langford. But there's every chance he could get a spot on the podium. But he's already exceeded expectations.

Did you miss last night's 1500m final? A classic. The medallists are out at the stadium to receive their silverware.

Britain's Laura Muir is not there - she missed out on a medal by seven hundredths of a second, finishing fourth and pipped on the line by South Africa's Caster Semenya, with Kenya's Faith Kipyegon taking gold ahead of American Jennifer Simpson.
