    Women's 5,000m heats

Laura Muir is finally up on her feet. She's bleeding a bit from a spike mark. She can barely get up the stairs though. A very, very tough last lap or so.

I have never seen her this distressed during or after a race before.

I am not sure she will want to run the final now. She is really having trouble getting onto her feet.

Hellen Obiri won that heat in 14:56.70. Also through are Almaz Ayana, Senbere Teferi, Susan Krumins and Shannon Rowbury.

    .

Laura Muir clocks 14:59 and collapses to the floor as she crosses the line, in seventh place. She looked absolutely spent in that last lap.

She will have to wait and see if that is good enough to reach the final.

For a very inexperienced 5,000m runner, Laura Muir has run a very good run so far.

She should have some speed at the end.

    Women's 5,000m heats

The pace comes up. Hellen Obiri and Almaz Ayana kick on as we hit the bell! Laura Muir in fifth. That would be good enough. Big 400m to go.

Don't forget that the first five in the heat are through automatically. Laura Muir is about sixth with two laps to go, but it's all one big pack still.

Hellen Obiri and Almaz Ayana are camped at the front. Ready to kick if they need to. One kilometre to go.

Much more like an August evening here tonight after the chill deluge of Wednesday, when those who had come dressed for summer left looking for soup and blankets.

Plenty of pushing and shoving in the pack now. This could get tense. We have three laps to go, Laura Muir getting dropped back a touch.

No need to do anything at all apart from track Ayana. That is good enough.

The world champion is right next to Muir. She should take comfort from that.

    Women's 5,000m heats

A little bit of pushing and jostling as Hellen Obiri moves to the front. The pace is slowing so Obiri picks it up. Almaz Ayana now steps across to take the lead with 1600m to go.

Laura Muir still in the top six or seven, but it's all one big group. No worries so far. It's 73-second lap pace so far, steadyish. We are at the halfway point.

The only time Laura Muir needs to be in the top three or four, is in the last two laps. That's when she needs to make a move. No point in wasting energy before that.

    Women's 5,000m heats

Laura Muir has not run a 5,000m outdoors this season, with a PB in this event of 14:49.12. Also indoors.

A bit of context on time, not that that matters in the heats, is that Hellen Obiri of Kenya has run a 14:18 this year. Almaz Ayana has a PB of 14:12:59...
