Molly Huddle remains way, way out on her own at the front. It's a training session for the American.

Eilish McColgan still looks good but Steph Twell has been spat out the back.

This event is just about to start and features two British heptathletes by trade – Morgan Lake and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Johnson-Thompson jumped 1.98m in the heptathlon high jump in Rio – a height that would have won her individual gold – but this event was ultimately the cause of her downfall in the heptathlon here last weekend, only managing a best leap of 1.80m – her personal best from when she was 14.

This is a slower race than the first one, even though Molly Huddle has her own postcode out in front.

A slower race = maybe only the top five will go through.

I understand what Molly Huddle is trying to do. She is thinking "I don't want to leave this down to chance".

She knows she is a better 5,000m than most of these runners but I am surprised some of these athletes didn't go with her.

McColgan and the likes are sitting back because they know they can kick at the end and finish strong but there are some people in there who would have benefited going with Huddle's pace.

Molly Huddle has a six-second lead at 2,000m. Eilish McColgan and Steph Twell are second and third, a long way back.

Don't forget that the first five go through automatically.

This is a huge lead for Molly Huddle. You don't often see this, especially in a heat.

Eilish McColgan has got a great finish which she has developed in the past few years.

She is coached by her mum Liz and I was delighted when they decided to drop the Steeplechase. It was a tough race and I used to hate watching her run in that.

    Women's 5,000m heats

Molly Huddle has made a Tour de France style break away from the front, she must be 40-50m clear now, we are maybe a third of the way into the race.

Madness or does she know exactly what she is doing?

Julius Yego of Kenya is the reigning champion who taught himself to throw a javelin by watching YouTube videos. There's nothing you can't learn online.

He led in the Olympic final in Rio before withdrawing through injury. Germany’s Johannes Vetter is world leader after throwing 94.44m in July – the fifth-longest throw ever.

It was a really big ask for Laura Muir. This heat was definitely tougher than the second heat.

The way it was run was also tough. It was slow to begin with and then a really fast final lap. I am relieved to see she was hurting because it was hard - not because of her Achilles.

Ayana has done the double many times - she has trained for this. It is very tough to do the double at any distance.

She needs to come away now and recover well and she should be fine for the final, should she make it. There are five fastest loser spots and she is currently in second so fingers crossed.

Only seven athletes in the second heat have run a faster time than Laura Muir clocked, ever. That bodes well.

Big news as Genzebe Dibaba is NOT racing tonight.

    Women's 5,000m heats

Laura Muir talking to BBC Sport: "I feel fine, it's a long way for me.

"It's not what I'm used to, I'm used to the 1500m. I should be able to make the final with that time. To be honest, mentally I was fine. I had to put the 1500m behind me. I felt I recovered from the 1500m. In the last lap, the legs just went

"It's all about recovery now - I'll get on it more. I've not run a 5k since January and that was indoors."

It's good to see that Laura Muir is in positive mood during her BBC interview. She looked in real distress as she crossed the line. Turns out she was just knackered, as we all would be.
