    Women's 5,000m heats

Here we go then - just the 12 and a half laps of the track. First five go through, plus the five fastest losers.

Plenty of empty seats inside London Stadium for this very early race. Eloise Wellings of New Zealand heads to the front.

If Mo Farah needed wellies in the 5k last night, Laura Muir could do with her shades tonight. British summer in a nutshell.

I am nervous for Laura Muir tonight. Her dreams were crushed in her favoured event - the 1500m - and I am not sure we are going to see the best of her.

She is inexperienced at 5,000m. This is only her second proper 5,000m race. There are some class athletes in there.

I just hope she can come through and surprise us. Maybe she is free of some of the tension. I have hope but more nerves.

The top five in each heat go through. Laura Muir should be OK but as I said, her heat is packed with class runners.

You won't see a bigger win than this is any track event.

Almaz Ayana, going for the 5,000m gold as well, cruised to a frankly incredible victory in the 10,000m on Saturday night.

    She nearly lapped second place!

Karsten Warholm won Norway's first World Athletics Championships track gold in 30 years with a perfectly-paced race to come home in 48.35 seconds in the 400m hurdles last night.

His face - priceless. Seb Coe has just handed him his gold medal.

Laura Muir is surrounded by talent in her heat. Reigning champion Almaz Ayana, of Ethiopia, begins her attempt to double after winning the 10,000m by more than 45 seconds. Kenyan Hellen Obiri, Olympic silver medallist in Rio, is fastest in the world this year by more than seven seconds.

The first five in each heat go through automatically.

I look at Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake - he's run 20:04 and that's right there with the other players. Van Niekerk isn't ready to run the 19.80 he ran this year.

I think this will be 19.90 race. Mitchell-Blake has a 19.95 PB and I think he can go close.

To put it into perspective, the president of the European Athletics Association, Svein Arne Hansen, is currently in quarantine after contracting the norovirus and is not able to present his countryman Karsten Warholm with his gold medal tonight.

It just shows, that the rules don't care who you are.

Botswana will hold a national holiday in honour of Isaac Makwala if he wins 200m gold tonight.

Makwala, whose exploits in London have been a major talking point this week, races in the final later on.

On Tuesday he was barred from the 400m final, as officials tried to halt a "very virulent" norovirus outbreak.

But he returned and progressed from an individual 200m time trial on Wednesday - he was quarantined for Monday's heats - and celebrated by doing press-ups.

The 30-year-old, who said he is "still running with a broken heart" will be going up against South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk, who on Tuesday dominated the 400m race for which Makwala said he had been training.

Whilst Great Britain continue to struggle in the medal table, the BBC took three wins in today's media 800m race.

Tom Gayle, Jamie Gavin and Tom Fordyce were all victorious, but commentator Andrew Cotter wasn't so pleased with his third place finish.

The media race is a big deal at all major championships and is always very popular. Today, there were 127 participants across 17 races.
